North EVO 2012 12m and 9m2 windrange?

Postby kolpamorta » Mon Sep 10, 2012 10:07 am

I intend to buy North EVO 2012, 12 and 9m2 kites. I am 90kg intermediate rider that is more into freeriding than into freestyle. Board is Jamie 2012 136/41cm.I've been od Rebels so far and satisfied. But now i have some good price for Evos and wanted to try something new.
What wind range can I expect from this setup in a real world? What is approx. low end of Evo 12m2?
Thnx in advance.

I can't comment specifically on 12 and 9m kites, but I can comment on Evo in general.

I have a 10m Evo 2012 and North site says the windrage is 14-28. I'm 77kg, riding 134x42 Nobile NHP and I can ride from 11-12 knots no problem.
Basically as long as the kite stays in the air and has enough wind not to fall down there is no problem with going upwing, as long as you know how to 'wave' the kite in minimal wind. It really generates a lot of power for the size.

Hmm since I am heavier 13kg than you, than 12m2 should be approx. same windrange as 10m2 is for you.

I weigh about 80kg and used a 12m and 8m evo as a two kite travel quiver for some time, they covered me from about 10knot with a nugget, till about 35+ knots on twin tip.. I was lit at the high end and had to dumb down the kite a bit.. one of the best 2 kite quivers ever!

What sort of wind do you want to get out in kolpamorta, a friend of mines around 90-93kg and he swears by his 14m 2012 Evo... says its mellow nature and consistent power delivery has helped him learn soooo much..

Mostly I am on gusty winds with choppy water and during the summer it is flat water and steady thermal winds. I guess 12m2 should be OK. Any bigger size should feel heavy and slower to control. I think that 12-14knots at low end and up to 30++knots is easily covered.

If you throw in another bar and have some shorter and longer lines You would be stoked....the evo covers alot of needs with line length changes!

I think.

I also wonder 4 or 5 lines bar? What do you think?
So far I was on 5 lines bar.
Extra fifth line kinda add additional safety and control but sometimes can be messy.

Evo isn't loaded 5th line kite (Rebel and Vegas are) so the fifth line changes nothing when it comes to riding. The only thing 5th line has impact on when riding Evo is safety.

I personally ride on 4 lines, the kite has good enough safety anyway, and lack of 5th line only saves some time when preparing the kite etc :)

Yup I ride the evo in 4 line mode. flys the same on four or five, but with a little less worry when the kite rolls in the surf..
