What’s Up With north 2013 Surf Line?

Postby onein5 » Wed Sep 12, 2012 12:06 pm

2013 Kites – out and available…
2013 Twin Tips – out and available…
2013 Surf Line. Leaked and looking Horrendous (http://www.hot-tension.ch/images/2013/E ... ionals.pdf) – but not available anywhere as yet that I can see?

Anyone (Dan?) know anything about what’s going on?

Release seems to be very far behind everyone else now…

"Surfing - Invented by North"

I agree the graphics look shitty and a board with 5 fin boxes will not be that balanced but you cannot say the boards are shit before you try them.

Its not 2013 yet and maybe its a hold up at their factory or something? (Cobra?)

I would not buy a North surfboard anyways since I have always found them superstiff and not suitable for my taste. I need some feedback from my boards. Try some other boards instead.. you might find something awesome!

Hello Mate - I do ride a WAM and love it to bits! The 2013 models may well smash it up on the performance front - but aesthetically (IMO) they are criminal in comparison to the gorgeous 2012 line up.

Just wondered if there are any issues with manufacture that might have led to the delay?

I don't know about any delays (at least in the US)... We have been expecting directionals to arrive at the end of September (as in years past) and as far as I know we're still on-target. Same with the twintips. The only delay I've seen is the Vegas is coming a few weeks later than expected, but that could be due to any number of things.

As to the graphics, I would have agreed with you 2 weeks ago. I couldn't understand why anyone would want to paint over the wood finish. But then I got to surf expo and it made a little more sense. The boards look WAY better in person. They have a really tasteful way of showing off the wood through sections of the paint. You can't see it in pictures, but it comes out in person.

On top of that, we've used the pure wood look for the last two years, and when you walk around the expo, all you see is exposed wood veneer from pretty much every other board company. I think our 2013 boards stand out from the crowd and look really good.

And for the record, I also thought that our kites looked terrible in the first images I saw, but I think they look really good in person. Wait till you see them in person and ride them before you cast judgement.

And as for performance, I've only had one weekend on two models and let's just say I'm super stoked on our directionals again this year.

Thanks Dan, You're slowly winning me over... :D Can you tell me how the Whip X surf shapes up against last year's X-Surf?

I am looking for a crossover single travel board, that I can also paddle surf.

Key things for me are knowing that the construction is as light as last year's boards were, and also interested if you know the volume for the two new X surf models?

Thanks for your help.

Good questions.
I haven't ridden the new Whip X-Surf, and I don't know anyone who has. I've sent Sky an email asking for his thoughts on the shapes and for the volume numbers but I don't know if or when he will be able to get me that info, especially considering that he has his hands full with the KSP event in Mauritius right now.

We had one single Whip X-Surf at the expo, but I don't know who has it now, and I probably won't get any real feedback on the shape for a while... Wish I could be more help, but I'm happy to get you info as it comes to me.

As to construction, I believe it's similar to last year's... It feels just as light as last year, but you can feel that the final layer of glass is a little thicker, so it should be a bit more durable.

i have been riding the x surf 5'10 at home for a bit and have now ridden the kontact and pro boards.
really impressed with this years x surf, much better than last years in my opinion with thinner rails and the channel which makes grabs really good for strapless airs.
would say volume wise it feels around about 27L when i surfed it which is what all my surfboards are and is prob what the 6'2 pro is as well. would say the 6'0 xsurf is around 29L.
both the pro and x surfs surf well just depends what type of waves you ride.
the 5'10 x surf is going to be my go to board for waves up to head high cross and onshore where as for cross off up to 2x head the pros are amazing as you can see with the way Patri is riding the 5'11 here at One Eye :thumb:
looks, weight and feel are really good this year and you won't get any paint coming off as was a prob with last years models.
be sure to test a couple out and see what best for you or of course you could go for the Wam which is a great all round kitesurf board and perfect for a 1 board quiver!
cheers
lee
