What kind of steel is the spreader bar made of and how can I weld it? Arc, mig or tig?

I bought a couple pounds (a box) of 304 stainless stick welding rods and my son welded my bent Jay spreader bar and it worked very well, we added some 3/16 plate reinforcements.

It is 316. 304 would rust in sea water.

OBN what kind of reinforcements did you do to your jaybar. Have had some issues with the chicken loop releasing prematurely. I think I have it figured out now, but am always looking for a full proof solution.

I have the freestyle version 6 and I bent the whole thing from boosting, it went from a shape like this ) to a shape like this U.
So I got some 3/16" thick stainless plate and my son Lee cut it to size and rolled it into a smiley shape, and cut a bit of the rod reinforcements Jay built on there, and then he put in the plate piece all the way across and welded it.
Looks to be pretty strong now.

Arc tig and mig will do the job.
Just need different finishing techniques
