how far do you have to drive to go out on the water to your local spot?

Depends on the wind direction... but here the prevailing wind is WSW so that means a 30 min drive (20km) for me. However my closest genuine kiting spot is just down the road (1 minute), this works in N - SE winds. For Strong winds from the West to the South the drive is more likely to be an hour.

it was between 1-2 hours based on knowing of only 2 lakes that allowed it. Now, I'm glad to say I only have to drive about 15-20 minutes to kite at my local spot. As long as there is wind, I'll be over there practicing.

if you drive straight down my street you end up on the beach (which you can drive on)
