Isla blanca works best with north winds which are scarce now, but you may get lucky.
About progreso, the whole coast is windy, thermal trade wind that starts around noon. Drive north, hit the pier in progreso and you can ride anywhere you want west or east of the pier. The locals ride just west of the pier at "El Playon".
Other spots to check out are Chuburná port, check it on google, Telchac Port, Dzilam de Bravo 80 km east of progreso, take a boat ride out to the nature reserve to see all the wildlife.
Drive along the coast, see a nice spot, go to the beach, kite!

Greets Mates,
I have business in Cancun in early July. I think I can get a few days in Progresso before hand.
How is the wind in early July, and where should I stay??
Nightlife suggestions?
Thank you in advance!
Cheers
ps - Is car rental a must, or are there places to stay on the beach?

I'm planning on heading to Progreso at the beginning of February. Are there usually other kiters out during the week if it's windy? I'll be traveling solo and would need some help to launch and land, especially on a narrow beach. It would be great to meet up with some other kiters too for some downwinders or to check some flatwater spots. It looks like there's a few spots between progreso and sisal that have some potential too. I'm bringing a 9 and 12 c4 quiver. I've been wanting to check this sport for a while now, and since the ski season is canceled in colorado now is the perfect time. Can't wait to get back on the water and hopefully meet up with some other kiters. My last day kiting in Texas, I need to get my fix soon!

Hello,
Local Kiters do try to make it out as often as possible, but most work during the week. The main beaches are not narrow, and the bottom is pretty shallow and sandy, so you should have no problem self launching, you could drift launch. Their main kite beach is left of the Huge pier if you are looking towards the ocean. The whole coast is full of spots!
You will probably be using the 9m most days, and may be overpowered on it a few days as well. Right now is still the north cold front season, so you still get a couple of those a month. Otherwise it is the usual regular trusty NE trade winds.
Let me know if you need anything else by PM and i will give you my email.

Feb is definitely very windy, north cold front cycles mixed with North East trade winds. Bring small to max medium kites.

Anyone have any first-hand kiting reports from the south-west coast of Mexico, Oaxaca state? I've surfed down there and the afternoons are usually blown-out ... but I didn't kite yet, so no sense of whether it was kiteable wind or not. Curious if anyone's given it a go? One excellent surf spot is Chacahua, as it has a wind that if offshore in the morning, then sideshore in afternoon, so you can surf all day (whereas Puerto Escondido is onshore and crappy in the afternoon). Now, with my kiter eye ... I am trying to remember just how windy it was.

Puerto has been kited but is rarely windy, and when there is some wind is usually on shore. Best chances for wind are in Spring. The area not far from there is very windy, but mostly off shore, there are some side shore beaches, here is a good report with some pictures: http://kitesurfvacation.com/?page_id=3581&lang=en
