Hi,

I'm spending December in Oahu - first good holiday for a while, so going for the whole month!

Is there likely to be much kiteable wind at that time of year? We will be loaded up with surf boards so might be able to negotaite space with the family for one kite. My largest is a 10 - is it worth bringing?

Staying on the North shore, so any advice on the nearest kiteable wave spot at that time of year ?

Thanks very much!

Neil

Mokuleia is the closest, but unreliable in winter. Gets very shallow too so bring some extra fins. :-)

December is a month where anything can happen. Anything from 30ft waves and nuking wind or 30 ft waves and glassy ;-)

Often the wind is stormy in winter, but can be epic..so yeah I'd say worth it.

In winter you can have weird wind patterns that opens upo spots that otherwise isn't kiteable.

Just don't go if you do not see anyone else there. Usually if no one is there it is a sign that you might not want to go out.

Thanks for the advice - would I be better off bringing something smaller - a 5 or a 7? Not sure I'm going to be able to get more than one kite in...

Not really. It is just that much of the wind in Winter is stormy, so you never really know. 10 is my go to size for Oahu.

Any other good places to kite apart from Kailua and the North shore area? :o For pro riders, is anything North of Kailua no no? (Kaaawa, Kahana Bay, Kokololio beach park, Laie, etc....)
