Attention Builders: New Equipment Registration System for Course Racing Equipment

All brands that are interested to provide equipment for the course racing discipline are advised to contact the IKA office as soon as possible to receive information on the new registration system that has become necessary due to the now Olympic status of kiteboarding.

The new registration system (note: this only applies to equipment not already registered under the previous registration system) includes a registration deadline (31.12.2012) by which all registration procedures must be completed, which includes 10 boards to be built.

It is furthermore required that any equipment has an unique plaque printed or attached to the equipment.

Final forms will be available soon, but builders may already order their plaque IDs to start production.

I wonder if that is 10 boards in total to be built to be approved for racing.

Or just 10 boards must be built to be assessed for registration process and then a minimum production quantity must be met ?

I was wondering the same thing.. if it is only 10 boards, there will be alot more players in the game.

If it is I would spend the money on makeing 10 boards. So more people can compete and have other choices then the ones out there..

It seems it's the latter. I believe 150 is the number of boards you need to produce to be approved for racing these days!...

It can't be no were near 150. Newind and Lab would never make the numbers... that would mean a board being made ever other day. That is a shit load of work for the small guys with the way boards are made.

I thought it was like 30 boards for 2011 or something like that. Maybe one of the guy will post on here to let us know..

vi. Brands must guarantee to minimum build 130% of pre-ordered
equipment with a minimum production run of 150 pieces.
Through the pre-order system it is guaranteed, that always enough
equipment is available from any brand MNAs which to choose from.

I guess you are right unless this is just for MAJOR brands)

this one would mean I would be working for less then 5 bucks a hour if the hull is 1000 bucks

That could be a reason why ML and NJS are building in an Asian factory to enable them to build the required qty, they just gotta sell them now.

If they are not quite selling the quota it could mean a price drop to move some stock

Yeah, that's pretty messed up. Even though the IKA says $1000 for hulls, most folks will get them retail at $2000 (and won't mind getting them at that price if that means the board is competitive and you don't have to wait 6 months for it to ship from Asia!). At that price point, a 'custom' (or small production) board becomes a real good idea... but it can't be registered for racing!

All of this in the name of keeping it affordable...
