the 'fair price' is the market price. if people are willing to pay X for a board, that's the fair/market price. if X is too high, the company sells little to nothing and goes out of business.

that´s naive but i do agree you will be a happier person by beliving on it

in Sweden! a small market, I can get a top of the line 14 ft racing SUP for 1800 usd. or a good allround surfing 9-10 ft SUP for 1200 usd.
or a slingshot kite surfboard for 700 usd.
all these prices are if I preorder to save money on shipping and secure a sale for retailer.
given my 35 years experience in product development I would ay these prices reflect the underlying opex. if there was a short cut some one would fill that up and offer product cheaper. I think we are talking about +- 10-20 % cheaper if someone wants to trim margins and go DTC.

OP will never understand it because he "believes" it is too expensive..regardless of what anyone tells him.

lol what did you think were in the boards? Some magic valuable filling?

I get $879 on SS website:
http://ride.slingshotsports.com/2013-Ce ... gory=35867
Or the less sturdyu construction for
$779 already...a small difference in construction..make an impact on the price.

So $900 vs Sector I found it for $1100.
The sector I am guessing has a volume that is maybe twice as big, makes a small impact on the production cost..when hit hits you with the few layers of times percentage increase where people in the chain gets their cut...a little more for shipping... (remember that an increase in cost is an increase in risk for the company).

200 difference is no huge. If you have only $50 difference in production cost..that is easily $200 at the tail of it. I don;t know what Airush pays, or SS..I am guessing SS volume is higher and therefore their per item cost is lower. Or maybe they are just better at negotiating.

The price you paid 399: no one is making money. If I were to guess I would think SS central pay maybe 250-350 for a board with the parts produced in China maybe even less ...or where every they make them...then shipping is about an arm and a leg of cost..then sending the board around..each leg. If SS would charge $400 they would be out of business. Great for you that you scored a deal tho.

Still don;t get your mill example. It makes NO SENSE. No need to put words in my mouth..all those bitter little pills might work on someone who cares what you think. I don't.

Maybe you should be complaining to Ben Bernanke (chairman of the US Federal Reserve). He is the one printing all of those US dollars and pushing the currency down.

it kind happen but with kites, 2013 models
nobile 50 12m with bar -> ~1700 Eur
switch nitro II 12 m with bar -> ~900 Eur

applying the same % reduction to a Sector at 1200 USD would drive a cost of around ~ 650 USD

PS
i know switch is saying they are just cutting down the middle men, but i don´t beleive the middle men is getting 800 Eur (1700-900) per kite, their base price simply looks lower.

I assume it is harder with boards because of shipping costs...and damages due to shipping. :-)
