Sliding Foot Strap for waveriding

Postby dorothyinstead » Tue Sep 25, 2012 8:57 am

Designed, built, and tested by Bob Ong.
A few weeks ago i tried strapless downwinder but struggled to keep the board on my feet during deep water starts, small jumps and messy waves.
I came up with this idea and have used it on three downwinders with good success.
The strap allows full movement of my feet up and down the board. the board stays connected to me feet in mushy waves, jumps, and deep water starts.

What kind of bungy strap did you use to go through the foam?

May try one.

I don't get it, you did a strapless downwinder and couldn't keep the board on your feet so you added a home made noodle straps? I understand you have more movement now which is my main complaint of strapless-straps but why not just stick out riding strapless? The straps will only hinder you and put you in bad habits.

Yes the goal is to ride strapless...eventually. Have only recently begun on the directional so my switch toe side is not confident yet. Also have difficulty doing deep water starts strapless in surf. Am relatively confident when skill level increases that i will remove the noodle strap all together. So far it is all good.

In Australia go to Bunnings, get the heavy duty 90cm anti recoil yellow strap. Also buy 1meter length of conduit to go through centre of noodle. You need to heat & flare the conduit ends so the strap will slide unimpeded through the end. The conduit must fit snugly or tightly inside the noodle.
Noodles have various size centre holes, some are solid...no hole. Clark rubber or some $2 dollar shops carry the smaller diameter centre hole noodle.

Feel the board with the bottom of your feet and keep the kite lower than for a twintip......With the kite lower it glues you on the board....Ride the surfboard and make the kite keep you glued on it....

Kite position is everything strapless.....
