Wainmann vs. other freestyle kites?? Help please

Postby erijen1985 » Thu Oct 04, 2012 11:27 am

Hey guys, I really need some help here.

Lately I've been riding a CORE XR2 9 and 11 meters, usually around 20 knts in choppy water and small gusty winds. I love the hooked-in performances, grunt and lift of the kite. But now I'm starting to un-hook, and the kite does not do it for me. I have tried the GTS2, but it lacks too much low end for me to find it fun to ride. unhooking, and flying abilities are great though. Do other C-kites have the abilities I'm looking for, or are they much alike the description of the GTS2?
I've got a good deal on the wainman 2.0 9 and 12 m2, tried them and liked them, liked their unhooking too, but didn't find them too lifty. As I have never tried a Naish Torch, RPM or Cabrinha Nomad, I'd really like to hear from some of you for some advice. Am I totally off buying the wainmans compared to these, or are the flying abilities alike?
What I want is:
- Good low end and grunt, without ripping my arms off when unhooking (WH 1 - XR2 0)
- Good/decent lift hangtime when popping hooked in (WH 0 - XR2 1)
- Turning speed and kite loop boost, i found the WH12 to be quicker than the XR2 11 (WH 1 - XR2 0)

So guys hope to hear from you, as I'm going to have to take the decission soon, and don't want to spend too much money on the wrong equipment (again) :)

Cheers and hang loose!

Don't want to pimp wainmans too much, just want to say i still haven't find a person who wouldn't LOVE them! There are probably better jumpers, but with a 12m2 in 20 knots you'll fly like a Boss ;)

wainmans boost high when you are riding them in their upper windrange. and they unhook well when not fully powered. not much difference to any freestylekite around.

if you wanna "boost high" in marginal winds you have to stick to bowkites.

The Wainmans are a wonderful kite, saw a guy ripping on one today actually.

But here's one I didn't consider and glad I did. The Varial x by Airush. You need to be a competent flyer though to understand and get the best out of them. Does all you want except some may argue about the low end. But it has a great low end, but its not a grunt machine. It take finesse. But in its middle range you can loop and unhook your ass off, in its upper range well you will have to experience it to find out. Mind blowing.

The Wainmans would be a safe bet though. And they are grunty, its the delta in them and they do have a grunty low end.

Core, yeh had those. You can do better,

how delta shape Wainman is freestyle kite? how it is different from any other freeride delta kite? Wainman is working on C kite which is going to be for freestyle.
And yes all freestyle kites has worse low-end compared to freeride kites.

For freestyle I would go with RRD Obsession. Liked it a lot when I tested it. I ride Bandits myself.

Hey guys

Thanks for taking the time to reply it helps a lot, and makes me more confident in my decission :)

But... I read the loopingit review, and cool enough, they recommend other freestyle kites, but don't mention which??

The RRD seems very similar to my XR2 - and it is not possible to buy in Denmark (same thing for the airush, but how is this one on the flying abilities that I am looking for??). The review does not mention on the un-hooking abilities, and i can immagine that it explodes just like the XR2?

So: None of you have any experience with the WH contra Nomads, RPM's or Torch?
Or will any of theese kites be better for un-hooking, but relishing the grunt, low end and lift??

So many questions so little time... and not enough money just to buy'em all ;)

Cheers

Also Surfers.se sell them in Varberg, Sweden, not too far from DK.

Good luck with your choice.

I rode RRD Obs.Pro for two weeks - nice kite but according to me Torch light years ahead.
I have no idea how the Wainman performs...
Just sold my Park to get back on Torch- hybrids are quite nice overall, but I prefer Cs.
