In the interest of not feeding the troll regarding foils, I started a new thread.
All kites compromise one thing for another (unless you actually believe the hype of some manufacturers).
What do race kites suck at?

I've got 2011 Dyno 18m and 10m. The 10m is amazing with a raceboard, but has definite compromises on anything else. The 18m has less compromise. Maybe because you're just happy to be out in sub 10 knots?
They are no good for wave riding. They do large sweeping turns that generate lots of power instead of the tight pivot loops you want in a wave kite. Tried riding waves strapless with the 10m. It just pulls way to hard when you move it. Pulls you right off the wave and right off the board. Kahoonas I also fly are the opposite, nice pivot turns. Power when you want, just pull in and go with the Kahoonas.
Race kites make at ton of power when you they are moving. This is great on the raceboard, you just keep going faster and faster. It's not a simple pull in and go. In choppy and/or gusty conditions on a twin tip with the 10m, this is a pain. You slow down on some big chop, and you're dead in the water. I don't have this issue with the 18m, probably because there is usually no chop in 10 knots of wind.
The 10m boosts to the moon when you are powered on a twin tip, but it often feels like it is trying to kill you. Try to do a big sent backroll, pull the bar a little in the wrong direction, and you are going mach 10 horizontal before you know it.

The Dyno 2011 18 is a jumping machine! High and long!
I saw other race kites, and they perform similar...excellent for lighter wind hooked riding, or heavy weights!
New Dyno 2012 is not as good in terms of jumping and hangtime. Still ok though.
I hope that the 18 comes back as Airstyle Kite, once all my 4 ones broke!

a race kite is a bad wave kite, a bad freestyle kite, has bad relaunch.....only for race or hang time...my view.

hi i ride the vegas and love them but often wondered about the dyno 15 instead of a 14 v...
it would be for the low end cruising so to get out much earlier and good old "olde school" stuff until a 12m vegas kicks in.........
thing is ive always believed from info from others that the dyno being a race kite is built light so hasnt got the usual protection around the LE for self launch and self landing.
as i self launch and self land 99% of the time can i assume that maybe i should indeed avoid the dyno's

... I absolutely agree. What I found was the 17m is ok but the 18m is sooooooooooooooo much better. I reckon they designed the 17m to go on a race type board but at the sacrifice of the twin tip performance.

The edge is a race kite. Not good for waves but I like it for freestyle, in the larger sizes. It's a slow turner and that makes it nice for unhooking. Why do people think it sucks for freestyle?

I don't think race kites are solid build...they have to be very light, specially the bigger they get.
My kite is in out the bag asap...no laying on the beach while the wind blows...
