Has anyone ridden blind toeside on wave with surfboard?

Postby SupaEZ » Thu Oct 11, 2012 8:32 pm

Very often we are on a wave going upwind heelside and switch stance to toeside to ride wave in

So my question.. has anyone succesfully tried on surfboard to switch to blind toeside and ride in?

My question are for strapless and strapped surfboard riders

There is no jumping involved to get "toe blind".....just switching to toeside in the opposite direction

Thanks :D P.S. i haven't tried it yet myself on surfboard :thumb:

do you mean fins out? many vids show that;..all the major riders can do that.

Otherwise there are not many ways to ride a wave.

Regular or goofy. backside or frontside. That is about it really.

The blind part depends on which way you turn, so riding a wave with the center lines wrapped would be awkward I suppose..but your toes are still frontside and it would leave you no ability to move right?

What would be the advantage?

well you would be looking backwards at the wave instead of looking forward where you are going.

Maybe good for some of the Hawaiian hot shot barrel riders so they can look back in to the depths of the barrel instead of the light at the end of tunnel /way out...that's too easy for them :)

The hawaiians hot shots can only look forwards, cause they they are too deep in the barrel to see anything behind them except underwater : )

yes, I like to ride blindside in the waves. I have successfully done a few times riding blindside then unhook and handle pass. In this video clip, you can see me riding blindside strapless. cheers, Kinsley

Nice vid. It would be even better if there were some waves in it...

So I'm a bit confused what you're asking...but I thought I'd share a bit of info.

There is no such thing as "blind toeside".

There is blind...and there is toeside... those are completely independent from one another.

Let me know if I can help!

Congratulations Kinsley for demonstrating exactly what i had in mind at 0:12sec and 1:52min :D

The reason i call it toeside blind is because on surfboard toeside "is an must skill to master"

For twin tips riding ...all you have to say is "blind" and everybody knows what you are talking about

But since this is a move for directional surfboards only... i find that "blind toeside" explains it better

We are in effect using "pressure from our toes" just like you do doing traditional toeside riding

The main difference is that to practice blind on surfboard you need to "do it on the opposite tack"

For example if you go naturally toeside right foot back...you will do toeside blind left foot back

The main reason is that the pull from the harness has to be on the same side hip as natural toeside

It has to feel the same...right foot back toeside riders like the pressure of harness on their right hip

Left foot back toeside riders like the pressure of harness on their left hip

Right foot back toeside riders also feel more comfortable moving their bodies "clockwise"

Left foot back toeside riders also fell more comfortable moving their bodies "counterclockwise"

That explains why "toeside blind riding" will be on the opposite tack you normally ride toeside

In the nice video from Kinsley he rides blind left foot back (turns body in clockwise motion)

This tells me that he is naturally a right foot back toeside rider

There is no real advantage to ride this way really..except that it looks really stylish in my opinion

................. :thanx: :surf: :sun: ...............................................................................................................
