Can't comment on how it is to ride a 3:1 because I've only tried 2:1 and 4:1.

Originally I just lengthened my depower line on my North bar to make a 2:1 that I could trim while on the rail of the board. The 2:1 was way to hard to trim in gusts. 4:1 works great.

4:1 is easy to set up on the North bar which comes with a cleat and 2:1 system already. The 4:1 (cascading) system takes up more space than the 3:1 system for a given amount of depower throw, so you have to add some length to the rear lines as well.

Flysurfer had 3:1 in the bridle in the original speed.
