Just picked up two Naish 2012 bars and was really impressed with the improved swivel – until I actually flew them… Seems that although they spin quite freely on the beach and at home, the twisted power lines just don’t offer enough torque to untwist them when you actually need it (i.e. after a Loop). So the power lines stay crossed until you loop back the other way.

I love Naish kit so much but this is really annoying me – have tried blasting for ages with fresh water, and also with WD40 to no avail.

My concerns are

the power lines are showing signs of wear from where they rub against each other whilst twisted. Naish beefed them up for 2012, but still worrying.

I have serious worries about the efficacy of an emergency release whilst the lines are twisted like that – I don’t think the kite will flag. Can anyone comment?

Here is the trick to all of the new ones..not only naish but other brands too... When you see the lines twist, use your fingerst to twist the depower rope to the line becomes untwisted..then untwist the depowerlines. There is usually not enough to do the lines, but enough when you help the depower lines....

Works every time for me and I never rinse or oil my bars...

I get it Taut - hadn't though of increasing the tension that way... Still a bit tedious though isn't it? I hear the 2013 is better for this... Nice to have a proper sealed bearing in their, but the bars cost enough already!!!

Have you ever released "in anger" onto twisted lines? Did it still work?

Most of the time I don't pay too much attention to it my lines are usually fine I think...

My lines sometime untwist and sometimes not. I also use the ride bar every now and then and that board doesn't even have a spinner.

If I maintained the bar and spinner I am thinking it would actually unspin, but mine if filled with sand and salt etc.

I have released...well I have self landed with the lines twisted. It was fine. If it is ultra windy / gusty I make sure I get my lines sorted before going in.
