Toby,
Looking forward to your DVD. A few questions for you:
1. How often do you use the microloop on your North Bar? From the photos it appears about 1/2 the time. 2. Is the microloop mandatory for some of the tricks? 3. When do you drop down to a smaller size kite - 25 knots? 4. You do a great job keeping you legs very straight. Do you stretch before or after each session to keep your hamstrings loose? 5. What is the most difficult trick on the upcoming DVD?
Thanks!

1. How often do you use the microloop on your North Bar? From the photos it appears about 1/2 the time.
--> every time I don't do rotations (besides slides)
2. Is the microloop mandatory for some of the tricks?
--> not really, you can do it with a stopper. But you are more likely to land the trick with a micro loop, since it handles so much better (in and out), so you have more time for your hands, jump higher and can land depowered easier.
But one trick I don't think is possible without a microloop: barefoot slide board pass
3. When do you drop down to a smaller size kite - 25 knots?
--> In 30°C air: 18 Dyno: 10-22 knots, 16 Rebel: 16-28 knots, 28+ knots: I stay home
4. You do a great job keeping you legs very straight. Do you stretch before or after each session to keep your hamstrings loose?
--> I do stretch just before, but in order to not get injured. During the tricks I try to put as much body tension in it as possible.
5. What is the most difficult trick on the upcoming DVD?
--> mmmh, there are several hard ones. And I have another 160+ tricks on the list, which I never did...so the hardest ones are still to come for me I think.
But, so far the hardest are more or less those...not sure if you know how they work...:
- 4 times board pass - kick flip, pass, handle kick flip - front 720 flipspin - handle to handle kick flip - 4 times spin kick flip - 3 times spin kick flip board pass
Thanks!
--> welcome!

Hi Toby, you're my hero, I love your airstyle! Luckily someone like you is pushing the hooked in style. I'm not totally against unhooked tricks (even if I don't like to do them for myself) and everybody if free to do what they like more of course, but for me kitesurfing is mostly hooked. I guess this is the same for 80% of the kiters. In my opinion kitesurfing should be different from wakeboarding pulled by a kite. Old style with some news ideas (as diffent types of slides) is much more fun to do and watch from the beach. Hopefully you can come to Costa Rica to show us how it has to be done. You' re invited, any time!! Nicola www.bluedreamhotel.com

Thx Nicola...hopefully one day!
Kitesurfing is about everything...unfortunately the hooked part has been forgotten more or less...which is sad for the sport.
Luckily things are changing which means more options and inspiration for all.
That's what makes the sport unique!
Cheers!

Toby,
The teaser photos from your diary look awesome. I can't wait for the DVD. Any idea about when you'll finish and publish it? It seems like 600 tricks should be enough to please anybody!

we are close...I will give it max 2 weeks for the tricks to film from now on. Fighting hard currently to get the stuff in...just 6 left to reach the 600, but 37 on the to do list.
But then we need to do interviews and film clips for them, like explanations. But that is few days. Then go thru and make all ready for cutter. Then I have no idea how long a cutter needs...
Hoping to have it ready before X-mas...

Toby,after reading a few postings in your blog thread it seems like it would be harder to come up with names for your tricks than the move itself!

You are absolutely right! I really have no clue how to name it... Maybe like: Toby 1, Toby 2...

Good luck finishing off the film. Looking forward to watching the dvd and then trying some of your crazy airstyle moves.
Q: will you have a difficulty rating to go along with each trick so we know which ones are possible and which ones to avoid?
And some tips on how to do some of your favorite ones
