A few weeks ago I was out on a 15 meter edge and a 139 infra and was flying circles around a fat lady, zephyr and a one kite. And the only one doing tricks. I was also the only guy over 200 pounds. The edge goes upwind so well compared to all other kites. This is key for light wind riding. Just sharing my experience.

I know all the light wind (race) guys say Edge, but can you really go unhooked there? or is it more for riding and hooked-in jumping?

The 15 edge is a slow turning kite"duh" but it is great for unhooking. I have learned alot of tricks on this kite. I mostly ride c4's but my 13 and 15 meter kites are edges. Because in light winds a kite that goes upwind really well will keep you from having to walk up the beach. Jmo

Same here. Have 10 & 7m c4's for the windy days and a 13 edge makes the lighter winds good fun.
Goes upwind like a train and if the wind picks up its great for old school and jumps etc.
Don't unhook but from other reviews the edge flies a bit too far forward for wakestyle stuff, but it's possible. And it never stops pulling, feels like I've had a proper workout after a couple hours with it.

the other kites you mentioned are more for just mowing the lawn.
haha, mowing the lawn as fast as possible. edge is the winningest race kite out there right now, i believe. shit flies upwind like none other. definitely not the right choice for anything but straight-line speed tho.

Have you ever tried unhooking on the edge?

I have tried unhooked on the Edge 17, it is able to ride the wave and turns faster than the Cab Switchblade 16. I have not try the Zephyr though. The Cabrinha Switchblade does relaunch better than the edge.
