Epic 3G II Renegade 7, 9 & 11 windrange

Postby av_dumitrascu » Wed Oct 17, 2012 7:11 pm

Even if I might get burned, I really have to ask: anyone here from the intermediate riders used the Epic 3G II Renegade in 7, 9 or 11 sizes?

I am really interested in the real life windrange of each size (not used by a pro, but by a regular guy), to decide if I take the 7, 9 or the 11, just to help me progress on water ;)

Fact is, from 6 to 15 knots I am covered (Spleene X19 and Flydoor), so I need a kite that works from say 13-14 knots, as higher over the 30`s.... I have both twintip and surfboard, what kite size should I take?

At least, seems that Renegade would be the most advisable kite for an beginner aiming for progress.... Dimitri, please feel free to chime in ;)

thanks!

The Renegade 9m would be perfect in that wind range if you are between 165-190lbs. The Epic wind chart is very accurate and for a 180lbs riders the R9 is good for 15-35 knots on a TT and 13-28 on a surf board. The Renegade is a perfect kite for beginner to expert. Extremely easy to relaunch, medium/fast, very stable and predictable and jump very easy. I like a lot my wife's Renegade 11m. The 7m is super fast and would be perfect if you only wave ride but on a TT you will not have enough power in the lower range that you mentioned.

For your info, I am at 198lbs and I ride the Renegade 11m from 15-28 knots. You did not mention your weight but go with the Epic wind chart and remember it is for a 180lbs rider.

You can't go wrong with a Renegade :thumb:

Boards: Flydoor 159 x 47, F-one bamboo 6'4, Takoon Data 142
And I will buy another twin tip asap, but first the kite ;)

Had the 6, 9, and 11 G1 and later 11 G2. Great kites with the best customer service I've ever experienced. Not a big fan of the bar, however, there should be a new one soon. The 6,9,11 covered me from 14k-mid 30's. My favorite was the 6m. I'm 200 lbs, and was able to use the 6m with a 6'2" surfboard(FireWire alternator) starting in the low 20's. Pull the trigger, I don't think you will be disappointed one bit if you want a good all-arounder. :D

I'm 80kgs/175 pounds and use a 135X41 Twintip.
I use a 3G Renegade 7M / 11M / 13M.
You won't need the Renegade 13M that I use for 12-22.
The 11M works for me, as soon as we get 15, and works great right up to 28-29.
The 7M starts at 23 and will go to 35+.
Very nice kite for an average kiter, beginners do fine with it, but it is not a sleepy boring kite.
Renegades have very good sheet and go low end and are safe and stable at their top end.
Eat gusts in crappy wind, go upwind great, boost easily without needing tons of precision from the kiter.
They don't stall and drift really well for wave kiting.
Renegades are great all arounders, ...fun, powerful, engaging kites.

Good morning Mr. av_dumitrascu,
I see that few of the guys already gave you some good advice on these models you mentioned. But also in order to save some money you can always go with the RENEGADE 7 & 11. No need for the RENEGADE 9 that is if you want to save some money. It will be good to have 7/9/11 but again if you get a 7 then you can easily go with the 11 if the wind drops down.
From what I see you are 85 kg and you also have a light wind board. So my suggestion will be to go with the 11 RENEGADE so you can use it from 13 to 16 knots on your Flydoor 159 x 47 and then once the wind picks up to 15 20 knots, change boards to a smaller one and stay on your RENEGADE 11 until 25 knots. Then once the wind picks up from 20 to 38+ knots you can use your RENEGADE 7.
Also all the RENEGADES come with an extra set of 15 meter lines. So if you want to use your RENEGADE 11 in 20 to 30 knots you can always use 15 meter lines on your kite. This will make the RENEGADE 11 become a 10 meter kite. I love flying the kites in 15 meters especially in the waves.
Any way I hope I did answer your question. Let me know if you need anything else.
Also if you want we still have (2) new RENEGADE 6 "2011" left for sale. Then you can save some money and get the RENEGADE 6/9/11.

Yeh I think you have enough boards to do what Dimitri says. I have 4m gaps on my kites, 6, 10 and 14 all spliced together with three different boards. But the 9 would be a sweet size that's the only thing.

Thanks a lot, everybody!

Seems I am like a woman in a shoes shop :angryfire:
what should I choose? And whatever I choose, when I will get home, I will be angry I didn`t took something else!!!

I would go with the Renegade 9m, seems I might use it with the surfboard from 14-15 knots and then with a twintip from 16 above, all the way to 35 knots (even if that means a smaller board).
Sounds like a plan, what do you advise me, guys?
I am with one hand on the ordering form on Epickites and in the other I am holding my creditcard ;)

If you're buying one kite my advice would be to pick the size that best fits the winds you get most of the time. This maximizes your time on the water and your progress.

The RENEGADE 9 will be a good choice also Mr.av_dumitrascu.
I use the RENEGADE 9 on 15 meter lines with my REEF 5'7" surf board on the ocean in 13 to 17 knots. But with "short lines" and it works great and I am 78 kg. Some times when I do down winders I will use the RENEGADE 9 in 12 to 15 knots with 15 meter lines and it still works great, but I can't stay up wind. So it's perfect for down winders in the ocean.
