2012 North American Speed Sailing Championships

We are nine days into the intense speed event with the top speed sailors from all around the world! Riders like David Williams from England are here pushing the fleet. Previous World Record Holder Alex Caizergues and current European Champion Sylvain Hoceini are all testing their luck in the waters of Massachusetts. Some legends in water sports like Hawaiian Alex Aguera and Josh Angulo are in full force. Christophe Prin-Guenon a legend in France has come out firing wining a race and is looking like he is in the hunt for a podium spot. Marie Desandre Navarre from France is the only woman taking on the men, as she was runner up at the Speed World Championships in France a few months ago! You have the American firepower lead by Rob Douglas Currently the fastest man in the world at 55.65 knots and current IKA world speed champion leading the event after nine days! His brothers Morgan and Jamie Douglas have been looking real fast and know the locations very well. Bill Lynch an ambassador of the sport and true competitor is always on the water testing himself and his new gear options. Some new names like Brock Callen who is sailing very well and is showing his local Massachusetts sailing skills. With his home court advantage, he is definitely a contender for the podium with a current third place position. I myself am battling my way through each race and currently hanging on to second, as the level with the riders is so high it is a fight every time we hit the water! This is the first event in history where course boards averaged over 40-knots changing the game of speed with Rob Douglas and Damien LeRoy redefining speed sailing in under 25 knots of wind..

We are seven races in and Cabrinha rider Rob Douglas leads the Charge in 1st overall at the moment, and has the fastest average time at 42.390 knots over 250 meters. I had a big day yesterday climbing from 6th to 2nd place overall. Brock Callen is sitting in 3rd but it is a open table as Christophe Prin-Guenon and fellow Frenchman Alex Caizergues have both won races. We have 8 more days of racing so anything can happen! The difference between second place and seventh is a mere 11.7 point separation between riders.

More to come!! Big wind Potential is in the forecast, as tropical Storm Sandy takes aim and bears down on coastal New England…… Damo
