You can expect 16-20 as the beach review states, its not rare with over 20 either.

This place is not like Ceara, northeast of brazil....
It can be really windy... 25+ knots.
But it can be really slow.
I can say that maybe half of the days are good (average). Can be less than that.
If its sunny, good chance to be windy. If it's raining, less chance.
There will be the south american kiterace championship in Buzios, mid november.
I am from there, if you need advice,
penna@centroin.com.br
Cheers

thanks! yes I have been to Ceara before but wanted to try somewhere different. Is it better to stay at Buzios or Cabo Frio ? from the point of view of kitesurfing and party?

Hi
I've booked 3 or 4 days in Buzios in early April (on the way thru to Curitiba).
What are conditions like then? I.e. what should I put in my golf bag?
What are the best beaches for kitesurfing off?
Anything / anywhere I need to avoid?
Thanks

Balug,
You should check the forecast a few days before you leave, than decide what to take.
As you can see in windguru
http://www.windguru.cz/pt/index.php?sc=426&sty=m_menu , from april till june the weather changes a lot.
If you get wind from NE or E you should go to praia rasa ( a kite 12 would fit most of the time), if you get wind from S or SW you should go to Tucuns or São Pedro dáldeia (it´s a lagoon) 25 min by car.
Since it´s only for 3 days, if the forecast doesn´t show at least 14 knots from NE or E , i wouldn´t take anytinng.
SW and S forecast usually comes with lots of rain and stronger winds (30 knots good for a 9).

Buzios is beatiful, great party scene and gorgeous women.
But it is also very expensive, at least for people who make their money in Mexican Pesos (me). I would have loved to kite there, but it was not windy when i went a year ago around march 19.
Cheers!

Thanks...some 8M weather would be great...
I will check the forecast and may take only bigger stuff if it looks marginal. I've got a 15m Flysurfer S3 for ligth winds and it doesn't take up much room or weight. I'm going to be in Curitiba most of the time but will have another free weekend. Last time I was there I got down to Floripa for the weekend and had a day kiting and a day on the beach. Very pleasant.

I've learned kitesurfing almost two years ago in Praia Rasa during April. The windy season begins in August and lasts until January, sometimes February. However, it is not uncommon to have windy days off season, just more rare.
I would stay in Buzios for the whole pack the city provides. The beach to kite in Cabo Frio is nicer, but Buzios has more beach and entretaining options overall.
If going to Praia Rasa, I recommend cheking out the local kite club, BKS (
http://www.kitenews.com.br/). For a daily fee (around USD 25), you have all the needed support. Look for Eduardo Graf.
Have a nice trip and good luck with the wind!
