The 2012 Luderitz World Speed Sailing attempt will take place over 6 weeks:
Windsurfers from 5th of November to the 2nd of December
Kitesurfers from 3rd December to the 16th December.

Due to limited space on the shuttle vehicles that will be constantly ferrying competitors from the end of the run back to the start, the number of registrations must be limited.
For further information and registrations please contact us on luderitz.speed.challenge@gmail.com

Thanks Peter - I thought it was strange that the kiters didn't even get a mention.

Maybe if the windsurfers get some stronger wind the whole battle will open up again if they can get to 57 knots? Would be good publicity.

Antoine takes the windsurf record up to 50.62knots and looks very comfortable at that speed. It will be interesting if they get some very strong winds.

I'm assuming the Luderitz site figure is correct, but maybe the Youtube quote is.

My thoughts exactly...coolest thing I've seen for a long time!

(oops, I momentarily forgot that windsurfing is uncool and for old men, blah, blah, blah, yawn)

Just noticed the small print in the top left corner - that wasn't his new World Record run.
He did 49 knots in 38 knots of wind so if it gets windy at the right angle I think he can go a lot faster.

Not the trench but Walvis Bay and the Sailrocket.

59 knots average?

wow....thats a huge gain % wise on the kitesurfing record.

now I'm terrified of the first wealthy Russian to turn up at the local spot with one of these :o

looks like kiting has its work cut out for it now to get back on top.

Yeah, he's going really fast, but remember the water is super smooth & he's going so fast relative to the wind speed that there's probably little pressure on the sail as he bears off.
