I am looking to buy a leash. I have a dogleash version now but it finally cacked for the last time. : )

are you asking about a kite leash or a surfboard in the waves with rocks on the inside leash?

A leash for my kiteboard. I kite on a lake generally.

This topic has been brought up many times before and it's almost always the same conversation--hence pj sofine's suggestion that you're trolling.

If you've never had someone tell you not to use a board leash, here you go:

Do not use a board leash.

The only reason to use a board leash is if there is some external factor which poses a greater risk to your safety than using one. Unless you're limited to kiteboarding near inlets at dusk during the migratory season for sharks while peeing in your wetsuit (and even then) you're probably better off not using a board leash.

If you've already been told and still insist on using one, you're surely resourceful enough to source one yourself.

Yes, knowing how to bodydrag is one of the first and primary skills you should learn. But sometimes you crash and can't see where the board is due to chop. The answer is the GoJoe by Ocean Rodeo. They are a little pricey for what they are, but a lot cheaper than buying a new board.

Thanks for the warning. I've heard this before and bought a GoJoe for this reason. I am the only one in a city of about 450 kiters with a GJ. LOL

I wasn't trolling BTW and I did a search for "leash" but I got no replies and then I did one for "best leash", 169 pages but no leash, then did one for "favourite leash" and got 278 replies no leash.

I used a dogleash type till it completely died. LOL It was a bit wimpy and required a lot of modifying to use it. Basically a waste of time/money.

My solution to all these issues people have, is that I have a leader attached to my board made from bungey cord, probably 1.4" about 3 - 4 feet long. So it will take out some of the slingshot action.

Another possibility is to put a weak link in the line by the hook. This will break if the pressure is too high. Just get some cord, make a loop and hang a weight from it. Keep adding weight till you find out it's breaking strength. Get heavier or lighter cord or loop it, till you get a strength you like. We used to use this on the tow line when tow launching hang gliders/paragliders. It's standard.

Where I kite lots of people use retractable ones and I have never heard of an issue. I believe everyone uses an Oceanus reinforced reel leash

BTW I was hit by my board on the ear when I was learning and I had no leash and a helmet with no ear cover. That's why I wear a helmet with ear coverage. Three of those pics were head/ear damage, easily fixed with an ear covering helmet.

you are not gonna get any advice in this forum about what the best leash is for kiting with a twintip, except for this same advice over and over and over

A reel leash is the best one for a twin tip.

but know that by best I mean its like the best bad idea
