I am 56 and have been kiting for about 10 years. I windsurfed prior to that. In addition to kiting I lift weights briefly twice per week for only about 15 minutes (High Intensity Training). No injuries from kiting, but did have shoulder surgery years ago from tennis serving. And I injured my knee years ago playing basketball. It can get sore if I kite hard and do a lot of jumping.
For those who may be interested, here's a link that explains really brief really effective workouts that won't harm your joints. Twice per week for 15 mins is all it takes.

No aches or pain after 5 hour sessions. I will go and do motocross with my some in the morning, go kiting in the afternoon and evening... then to round things off nicely a night ride mountain biking.
My trick... don't watch TV and am vegan. I do some yoga and use any excuse to walk, move etc. Oh and I don't use footstraps..
We must be twins,except for diet!And I'm 6'4-223. I was starting to feel old after reading these depressing posts.I ride like I have a death wish,go big,ride hard and take no prisoners! Cancer free so far after 5 yrs,I'm not wasting any time. Little sore early in season,otherwise I feel 30,well maybe 40!

How is kitesurfing treating you? is it making you stronger is it wearing you out? if its wearing you out. What parts are getting worn because of kiting?
What else do you do to condition your body for kiting... if anything.
I am no longer as rubbery as i once was and have to accept the fact that i'm not 10 foot tall and bullet proof anymore.
For sure I don't feel my age when I am out there. As a matter of fact I, I am as passionate about kiting as I was about skiing and hang-gliding 30 years ago. If anything, this sport (my style - hooked) is not physically demanding enough to keep me 100% fit. I suspect however my knees will be the first to let me down, forcing me to retire, hopefully the latest possible. They seem to be the weak link. What is important is not to interrupt too long, as I have lately. You get quickly out of breath the first hours back. For my level, what I should be doing more, is simply swimming. An excellent conditioning for kitesurfing is wakeboarding, especially for the arms and upper body. I am dead after 15 minutes of that! Waterskiing is good too.
But look at a guy like white haired Bille: he doesn't own his original knees anymore (he's borrowing steel ones), and that doesn't prevent him to rip.
