We all know that super hot conditions can have adverse effects on kites. Most commonly, valves sometimes become loosened or begin to leak if kites are stored in very hot locations like cars in the summer sun.

But, what about cold? Are there any adverse consequences to kites stored in really cold places? Or, what if the kite gets wet then the water freezes?

Winter is right around the corner and it would be good to hear from kitemakers - especially Ocean Rodeo, because being from Canada they should know a lot about this.

Been riding winter for 12 years and no problems. The only issue I have is some bladder valves get really stiff at -20celsius or so. But then it;s too cold to have fun anyway.

Dry your kites inside before you go back out in the cold or the fabric could be stuck together ....in the worst case careless scenario. I always dry them inside to be sure this never happens..just good practice, common sense.

Have never had any issues with kites stored in the cold.

Well, not really cold, as in Canada and Russia but around minus 20 degree celcius ( = minus 4 F ) here in the winter sometimes.

Leave all valves open (that goes for warm conditions too - NEVER store with closed valves), and no problems

I never kitesurf when it is under minus 5 degree celcius (23F) anyways....
Snowkiting when colder, yes, but in the water, nope.

The valves will be a bit tougher to close when cold, but they still work.

I kite often below -20C, up to -30 with no problem except some valve (mostly the old standard model). Usually below -10C I am on a Flysurfer and when it's warmer I will sometimes ride a LEI...as long as I have my electric pump with me

Just a minor point .. leave the tops of your kite bags open as well, lets them breathe, so if there's any moisture in there it can escape.
