ISAF - Sail Melbourne

Postby wdric » Mon Nov 12, 2012 11:02 am

Sail Melbourne would like to confirm that, in light of the decision by ISAF on 10 November 2012 to remove Kite-boarding from the Olympic Class line up for 2016 Olympic Games, kite boarding WILL continue to be embraced as part of its Invited Class Program during the ISAF Sailing World Cup – Sail Melbourne, to be hosted at Sandringham Yacht Club, 2-8 December 2012.

As a key addition to the invited class program, Sail Melbourne's first in class Race Management Team will continue to provide a competitive platform for kite boarder from around the world. Racing Formats will remain the same, entailing course racing and a final-day medal race as originally planned, in line with the IKA Class Rules 2012.

With more than 60 entries, this year's kite boarding at Sail Melbourne is set to be an amazing competition and we look forward to welcoming you to Melbourne in December!

interesting...how many Windsurfers signed up for the event?

Maybe those numbers of ISAF events should be considered when deciding which sport should be in Olympics?

When you register you can select RSX as the class.
But there is no heading yet in the entry list for RSX, I assume that means no RSX have registered yet!

They have only just included RSX as of yesterday!!!!! Give them a chance. Geez.....

Now with such short notice, it will be difficult for international sailors to take part.

RSX was always in sail Melbourne :o
Just goes to show that in this part of the world that class has very little interest in it if it's not in the Olympics.
Unlike other classes of sailing and kite boarding where it has an increasing following regardless of the Olympic status and will continue to slowly grow.

At least with kiteboarding it is a sport that people are interested participants in even if it's not in the Olympics.
Truth be known it is probly a good thing to have been given a huge kick start and now it can get on with just being a great aspect of kite boarding without the political baggage associated with an Olympic sport.

Now if only we can get a hold of that virgin boss to create a world kiterace tour to poke some fun back at all the knockers :thumb:

would be fun to see a pro/am race! Like like Branson sponsor a young talented rider and go out together for the races...both results count for final ranking.

Would be cool for all...and make some nice friendships between pro/am ! And the am will be able to learn a lot from the pro!

And am could be on a twintip!

Great fun event for sure!

RSX was not always in Melbourne - take a look at the NOR!! Version 5 released just this week - now has RSX highlighted in red - ie recent change!!!!

It was not pssoible to register until a couple of days ago. Why don't you check their facebook site also.

From Wednesday 14/11:
Sail Melbourne is pleased to announce that entries for the Men and Womens RS:X are now open and all RS:X competitors are eligble for the early bird entry fee!!!

Would be nice if you got your facts right before you start having a go. Also even some understanding for the RSX sailors and what they've been through - not very nice feeling is it?

Not a dig at all mate, just the way I see it that class's survival is so dependent on it being an Olympic sport.

And yep I only checked the current registration form and assumed it had been there all along :duh:
So are you coming to sail Melbourne now RSX is in, I will give you a race

I think it would be just fair from ISAF now to put up higher pricemoney for kiteracing, since we don't get any Olympic support now from out nations.
They want us one day to save the attraction and participation numbers of their sailing events, so they better pay now to get our young talented riders going!
