Yes, all Shift bars will work with all Torch kites. At least as far back as 2008 or so. Anything older than that I'd probably stay away from.

Technically any 5 line bar (Naish or otherwise) will work with any year Torch as long as all 5 lines are the same length.
There are some subtleties (some sizes of Torches in some years like some degree of line tuning) but as a rule of thumb the above is true.
Coincidently I was using a 2010 bar on my 2012 Torch some of the time as I kind of liked the below the bar depower (I'm an old man that seldom unhooks)
cheers
Matt

thanx You should be fine. Btw good choice in the 2012.... Flying a torch you should be able to adjust as you see fit..some like to have a little more or less pressure on the 5th line. A.

Quote: Technically any 5 line bar (Naish or otherwise) will work with any year Torch as long as all 5 lines are the same length. Not true, only works properly with the Shift bar. I brought a North 2011 5th Element bar for mine and the kite did not fly well, spent alot of time adjusting line lengths etc. The kite did physically fly on the North bar but just not aswell as on the Shift. I did a back to back test with both bars and the difference was very obvious, on the North bar the kite was twitchy and the wing tips flared too much. It is down to the Y split being different on the 2 bars which affects the shape of the kite. But to answer the original question all Torches will fly on any year Shift bar. Some years had different length pigtails at the kite so you will have to adjust the rear lines to suit depending on the kite, pretty sure its from 2009 onwards as my 2007 and 2008 use longer rear lines (by 1 knot) than my 2009 and 2010 Torch.

I fly my torches without a Y and they ride great, actually I prefer no Y. Yes a bit of flare in the tips but it seems to have more oomph than with the Y as then your tips are pinched in.

Fair enough only ever tried it with North which has a very high Y which didn't work well with the kite.

I'd certainly reco Naish bar for Naish kite. I haven't experienced issues mixing various year bars with various year kites

Yesterday, i have bought a Torch 2012 7m, with its 2012 bar. And I can tell you that these bar, with its correct configuration for freestyle, direction lines the longest possible way, and the middle ones in the shortest, and the kite still collapse a little bit!!! i make the test with my 2010 bar, and the torch 2012 didnt collapse any way and was flying perfectly! Is this normal with 2012 bars??? or may be is a problem of this one in particular??? Thnx

Any mods to it? the 5th should be tight, but not holding the kite as far as my experience goes with that kite (was on an 11).
