+1 for the correct edging in takeoff. If you do not make the last kick to upwind just when you are taking off, you will rotate forwards. If you turn too much upwind, you will rotate backwards (this is how you can initiate backwards rotation in takeoff). If you could see your track on the water (like you can see it on snow), your track would end to a short kick to upwind and would look like a Nike logo.

Bonus is that when you nail the edging and takeoff, you will get more hight for your jump.

Re: unwanted rotation in jump, jump tips

thanks for the pointers guys, good points in all.
i kite in shoreham england, so im always in waves and to start with ive been using the waves launch off,
i have been using a 125 lite wave TT (which is brilliant in flat water and really stiff), but recently bought a 132 f-one skate and my riding has improved drastically,
im thinking its probably a combination of the wave tipping the board and not learning back far enough just before and after the launch, plus my head direction.

mind you its not happening all the time just occasionally, but i am looking at the techniques for a back and front roll now so may help, ya never know :D

keep the jumps tips coming if anyone else has any probe or tips

but sometimes im rotating forwards, i cant seem to figure out why,
i thought i was looking at my back hand on the bar, but not sure, ]
if any one has any ideas id appreciate it,
Standing on the Floor try hard to rotate clockwise if looking from above. Then anticlockwise. Feel what your feet are doing.
Basically you push off with right foot to rotate clockwise.
This is why you rotate. There is no other way to start rotation.
Well - apart from pushing off lines tension before kite is vertical above your head. Not really applicable to boosting take off, as kite is basically above your head on take off. May be a little?

As to controlling rotation while hanging off from the ceiling (kite) on a single rope - obviously you cant as there is no Floor or water to push off from. So one cant change direction of rotation while hanging off a vertical rope. U can twist ur body or slowdown speed of rotation like a balerina or figure skater does. but not stop it completely or change direction.
It becomes possible when rope is not vertical, I. E just before landing on a short jump. In that time it is obviously possible to push off the lines / bar to stop/induce rotation. Push the bar to the left and body will rotate right. Bar is your "Floor".

Thrust your hips and harness hook towards the kites pull- this will give you a good reference of where you're really going and stop a lot of weird spins.

I cannot comment if you are using a fixed harness hook. I've been using a sliding rope spreader bar for over 4 years and if I wait too long on loading up the lines to boost the kite is further behind me and the rings on my spreader bar are pulling me up away from my center of gravity and it puts me into a front roll rotation. I'm used to it now and go with it. It is just a shocker when I'm only trying a simple jump and next thing I'm doing a 30 foot frontroll on a hydrofoil.
