I am looking for a holiday destination to go kitesurfing in the end of July/beginning of August.
I have been to Dakhla two years in a row and would welcome a change, but would like something similar, what I am looking for is :
- good wind statistics for that period
- flat water
- accommodation close to the club/beach
- not too crowded
- quiet, no need for nightlife, I want to sleep, eat and kitesurf, kitesurf and kitesurf, o did I mention I want to kitesurf ?
I live in Belgium and would like a destination not too far away.
I have an intermediate level.
Destination I have already been to include :
- Spain, Rosas
- Egypt, El-Gouna
- Marocco, Dakhla
- Brazil, Cumbuco
I was thinking about Naxos or Paros, does anyone else have any suggestions ?

Naxos is a beautiful place to kite but not a consistently windy place really... worth a visit though. I think you are looking at 5 to 6 days wind with 4 to 5 of no wind around that time typically (locals please correct if wrong). Its a realxing place and the Islanders are very friendly, its a quite island.
You could try the canary Islands - Furetaventura should be pretty consistent winds then. I would stay in the north (Corealejo) near Flag beach, or Tenerife (El Medano).
What about west coast of France or portugal.....

Seriously consider going to Gokova, Turkey.
I've been there for 2 weeks in August 2011 and I kited everyday with my 9m Obsession (only 1 day with 13.5m Obs): don't trust both windguru and windfinder, 'cause you have local thermal wind any given day.
Since it is at the mouth of a small lagoon, despite the straight onshore wind direction you can find both flat water and small chop.
You can rent a house in the tranquil town of Akyaka, just 5 mins driving from the spot, have delicious food and relax by night.

I would agree with Trikke. You don`t find better wind than in Gokova. Absolutly not to crowded. I would recommend it.

I've found Rhodes more consistent than Paros (3 summer trips each) so I suggest you add that to your list. You can find flat water on either Island. Also you can find chop/wind waves for jumping if you prefer. Party or calm depending on where you stay.
I also love then Canary Islands - similar reliable wind that time of year but I don't know the flat water scene. Tenerife has a nice bay in the south that is probably flat but I was out more in the main El Medano beach (sorry forgot the name - I just remember a big rock!). Not big waves at the time but I wouldn't call it flat either. More like big rollers with some nice breaks in a few spots.

I decided on Mauritius this year, since it will probably be the last "long" kite-holiday I will take.
Will be combining a snowboard holiday in the winter ( together with my girlfriend ), with a shorter kitetrip in the summer.
Thanks for all the advice, it will surely come in handy in the future !

Try looking into St. Croix USVI, the wind is great in early August and the water is always flat in the lagoons.
