Amazing Vegas 2013 12m2

Postby Ned Divine » Wed Oct 31, 2012 10:24 am

I am a Vegas fan for a few years now, but I was very dissapointed by the Vegas 12 of 2012.
Having tried the Vegas 12 of 2013 in a rather bad day with very variable wind (from 8 to 18 knots), I must say it felt like the best kite I 've ever ridden. Constant power through lulls, very easy to get going, very responsive, incredibly smooth kiteloops, very good depower when the wind picked up, nice hangtime, very very nice kite.Thought it would be worth sharing.
I am not affiliated to any company, I ride Best, North and Flysurfer.

I 'd say it is a bit heavier compared to last year's. But then I have only ridden it once in - mostly - light wind.

I agree.

incredible performance, but i wonder how much is down to the kite ... the 22m standard lines suit the kite so much better. 25m lines are really way to long.

The kite behaves so much better on 22s.

Hi, I'm new on this frum so hello to everyone.

I currently own a 2012 9m Vegas and want to complete my quiver with a 12m.

Everyone here seems to say the 2013 has really more low end thant 2012 and better kiteloop capacities. The price is more or less double beetwen a second and (in very good shape) 2012 and a brand new 2013. Is the 2013 really better than 2012 ? I do LOVE my 9m for almost everything and i d'ont find that the low end is that bat. High end is very impressive, ca ride it up to 35 Knots.

Secondly. The 2013 12m Vegas is it designed to be used with 22m lines like the smaller kites or should it be used with 24m of lines ? It should feel prety weird to ride a 12m with only 22m of lines.

Have a nice day

Morgan

You use the 12m on 24m or 22m lines, you will get a bit more end out of the 24's but lose a bit of responsiveness.

I have been riding Vegas's for years and now have a some 2013's. They have moved the kite more into pure freestyle with 2013's. They have moved the middles struts down to open up some canopy and generate a little bit more low. It's definitely noticeable compared to the 2012's.They have also dropped alot of the battern's off the kite. It first this concerned me as I thought of it might effect the stiffness of the kite and feedback (Thinking 07 Vegas here). No worries though, the kite feels great through the bar, even better feedback than last year. They seem to have beefed up the LE and taken some load off 5th line, I think this is what is giving the even better feedback. It turns silly fast on the fastest settings and gives tight, fast and very very smooth loop. Put it on the slow and wake settings and the kite is nice a solid for unhooked stuff. The kite doesnt dump it's power as well as the 2012's though and I am sure that some top end will be lost. (who cares, depowered kites fly nasty anyway). You could just about get away with 2012's in waves but not so sure on the 2013's.

Is it worth upgrade? I think depends on where you riding is going, if your are freeriding then you might as well save some cash and grab last years. If you have deep pockets and are into some freestyle the 2013 is probably worth the upgrade.

Hi Paulie,

Thanks for your answer.

I'm a begginner in freestyle can only do backrolls and raleys. I think a 12 can be a very good kite to improve my level in unhooked freestyle as it should be a very stable kite and water is very flat when riding in low wind. I Also think what you expect from a 12 is a lot of low end.

I don't need the kite to be very powerfull in it's low end, just need it to be able to go upwind so i can spend my session trying new tricks.

If I go for the 2013 would it be confortable to ride it with the 2012 25m bar ?

It will work fine with the 2012 bar, I have flown my 2013 9m on a 2010 25m bar with no worries. North 5th Element bars from 2006 onwards work on all 5 line North kites.

Tested 10m 2013 on 22m lies. Very impressive, I was impressed by the low end, very stable when you unhook. Has nice lift if powered up and keeps you longer in the air, falling down is more gentle. 10m have usually lighter bar pressure than 12m, and that was true. I felt like i had more bar feedback on my 2010 12m. The 10m kite set on fast steering felt.... very fast. If I had cash I would upgrade my 2010 (which are still awesome kites). Both kites tested on wakestyle set up.

Any1 compared vegas to other kites like torches/razors?

I have the 11 and couldn't be happier with the kite. It has really surprised me the low end it has. The kite is sooo smooth in the air. This is my first year on Vegas coming from a bridled kite and let me tell you I am very surprised by how good of all around kite this is, it is not just a hardcore freestyle kite. Bar pressure is average or a lil higher very acceptable for me. Jumps very good, loops great all in all very happy I switched from RRD Obsession to Vegas. Construction and build of the kite is really good. Try before you buy! :jump: :naughty:
