Light Wind Board

Postby Danydan » Sun Jan 06, 2013 10:44 pm

Hello everybody,
just received all I needed to start making boards and I am in search of the measurement of a big board for light wind, like a Spleene Door or Monster Door (not decided yet). I do know that it is not a complex design but I'm wondering what is the difference between the width of the board at the center and at the extremeties (nose & tail), what does the rocker looks like (I suspect it is fairly flat but would like a confirmation) and finally what is the thickness of board at the center & nose/tail???

Thanks for your help and have a good winter.

Dany

I have a spleene door right in front of me. 2011 High Tech model... Same as 2012. I'm a 170 pounds. And I love this board....but it was expensive.

My buddy is probably 220 and he loves his 2011 high tech Monster door also.

My board measurements are:
width in the middle.....16 9/16 inch
Board plack reads 159x45cm

width at the ends....17 1/2 @ 7 1/2 from each end.

Thickness at the each ends....1/8

Thickness in the middle, at each side....9/32
Thickness in the middle, at the center is...7/16

I love my board too. I would determine which board fits you best and build the board accordingly. I'd guess that the Monster has the same measurements as the standard door, just scaled up.

Thanks jyetley, exactly the kind of info I needed... Given the fact that I'm 175lbs but currently about 185 because of the Christmas festivities, I will start with a Spleene Door as opposed to a Monster...

Not much trouble....pm me if you have any more questions about the measurements.

fyi, I pay $700 for that board new, but on closeout as it was April 2012. I think you'll have good results in comparison.

Note in this pic how the pads aren't centered - they're closer to the heel side edge. I believe this is vital for improving the range of the board, by allowing you to have a wide board but still be able to hold down power.

Also, unless you are yourself a heavy-weight, go for a short, super-wide board like 140x48.

IMO, FWIW etc etc.

Hi, I'm 84 kg. I like 150x46 cm with 2,5 cm or even 2cm rocker. Relatively square outline but still a natural curve around 2.5 cm in from the center towards the tips.

Ideally, the flatter the rocker, the more you want the board to flex. You want it to take off fast but then flex so that it slows down when you load it up hard- tricky because it depends on your weight and riding style.

You can go wider if you are heavy or just want a super light wind cruising-only board.

Offsetting the foot straps only makes the board behave like a narrower board on heelside and totally screws up toeside.
