Kite Size for Thailand..??? Pataya & Hua Hin

Postby Ozzie » Thu Jan 03, 2013 10:04 am

Hello Folks,

I need your advise to get proper sizes of kites. I am 1.78m and 73kg(considered thin body). I will keep going to Pattaya and Hua Hin at weekends(I live in Bangkok)..

What size of 2 kites should I buy for these two region? 9 & 12 or 10 & 13 or 10 & 14. I am planing to buy Cabrinha Switchblade 2011 or 2012. I need to choose the right sizes so that I shouldnt have any probem. Thanks in advance for your valuable comments.

with a larger board (137-142) you'd be better served with 10, 13 combination...

and smaller board (132-137) 10, 14 combination....

cheers,
windr

I would recommend a big kite 12 or greater is good.

I would recommend a big board. The bigger the better.

I would recommend being thin and light to begin with. If you are a 60 kg guy then you can probably get away with a 10 meter on most days. I'm 85 kgs and I find it to be almost always dissappointly weak. I've stopped going there to kite. I go to play golf and if I see wind I think about kiting.

The wind is just not that strong. But I know a pro chick kiter who raves about the place because its perfect conditions for her (50-60 kg) chick to do unhooked tricks all day long.

As CT says it's very light wind in Thailand. Recommend size 10 and 14 if you plan to use a twintip. If you freeride a raceboard could be an option which will give you many more days on the water.

Blue Lagoon http://www.bluelagoonpattaya.com/index.html just south of Pattaya at the same location as The View restaurant stocks Cabrinha and Airush. Come down on a weekend to check it out. The season should be good now...and would be even better if you could get some cold nights.

What do you think about SLINGSHOT for Tahiland? Someone told me that Slingshot kite are heavy and dont fly good in light wind as opposed to Cabrinha and Airush. I just wanna know what brands are good for Thailand.

OK, Cabrinha and Airush are sold mainly. What about others such as Slingshot, Ozone, Best, Wainman???

Check with KBA schools. They usually sell Cabrinha.

I was in Pranburi-Pak Nam Pram (30 min from Hua Hin) with a 10m switchblade and was fine in November. I'm 60kg.
My 70kg friend had a 12 so I would go more with the 12.

I checked all KBA schools for their stock. Also I have their price list. Strangely, they have very limited kites. That s really weird.

Eran in Hua Hin usually has a pretty good stock of kites. He sells a whole bunch of brands but recommends Cabrinha for Thailands shitty wind.

Get a huge kite, Thailand winds are more hot air than actual wind. i'd be buying a 17m lightwind beast like zephr from Ozone or the SS turbine (2013 not the 2011-12). And then a 12m.
If by some freak of nature they get more than 20 knots (might happen in March) then rent a smaller kite. A 17 and 12 will ensure if there is wind, you are out in it and not sat on the beach with $2000 of equipment that doesn't quite hit the mark.
