How are sales on the 2013 gear and what are they working on for 2014? Those bars are premium. Maybe they are going for margin over volume? I can pick any kite from any brand for the same price as Best kites. Two or three kites from some brands for the price of one of theirs. I'm not hating; just missing the days when they had cheap kites.

as far as Im aware Shannon is still a Director but is not involved in the day to day running.

While Best HQ was based in Florida this was good for Shannon as he lives there. After their move of HQ to Hatteras for a better kitesurfing base for their HQ Shannon wasnt going to up sticks aswell which made interaction with the company a little more difficult on a day to day basis

If that was the every day price for all Best kite models and sizes; they would be the most common brand used. Price sells.

Not to be a Best apologizer, because I don't really care, but there is a big difference in quality from those years, and to 2012-2013. They really tuned up the feel on a bunch of kites, and stepped up on build quality. I'd suspect they're the same price or more expensive than other brands because the quality is the same or better than other brands.
