Hey Teabird,
We spent 5 months in Aruba, absolutely loved it, and can’t wait to get back! The big hotels are a short walk to the Fisherman’s Huts where there is flat water kiting. It’s offshore, a bit gusty but the water is pure glass. There are lots of schools in this area.
The other side of the island (Boca Grande) is our favorite as it’s not touristy and there are normally only a handful of kiters there. There is a reef protecting one side of the bay and waves in the other side. You’ll need a car to get to this spot.
We stayed at the Sea Breeze Apartments which were clean, nice and 1 block from the beach. They had a small swimming pool, a nice garden area, and are outside of the tourist area. The only downside was they didn’t have hot water (maybe that’s changed now) but the weather was so hot it didn’t really matter. We don’t spend much time inside, so it worked for us. These apts are closer to Boca Grande, which is also why we like them, but you’ll definitely need a car if you stay there. All depends what kind of place you’re looking for.
Wind is generally strongest in June-Aug.
