We congratulate all builders that have made a tremendous effort to meet all requirements and we are very pleased that the new registration scheme has led to a situation where equipment is actually already available and used on the beaches around the world. The deadline for and eligibility date for the next registration cycle will be discussed at the upcoming IKA Annual General Meeting.

The full list of eligible equipment can be found here: http://internationalkiteboarding.org/in ... Itemid=281

Looks like some additions for the new year.

how much does it cost a brand to *register* 1 board, or 1 kite? I can kind of see the point with the board, but what is the point registering the kite?

just curious :-)

I know why you ask, as I also want to use a kite, that for some reason (I dont understand) is not on the list. Damm! :duh: (maybe the same as you want to use)?

The reason for this list is that we can all use the same gear because it is production gear, then it makes no sense when some kites (eg North ltd.) and boards (eg mikes lab custom) are impossible to get.
Aslo if a kite company has a release on their kites which does not follow the deadline of the registration, then we can not use this kite. Also strange.

But why havving this list as long as the equipment is following a box-rule ? This rule could also incl. weight of board (so a custom would have no advantage over a production, but I could be proud riding my own board) and the rule could aslo give the kite a box to fit (And I could use my mothers home made kites) :P

The box rule has a minimum weight, 5kg I think. There's also a production minimum, I think it's 30 boards which isn't a lot. But at least this means board development can continue to happen. Box rules are way, way better than "on design rules" where people end up buying 10 boards and finding out which one is fastest. You're right about kites, registration seems pointless, just go with the silly low production minimum.

As much as I understand the point of box rule, I think it is a little weird. I can also see arguments against it.

How much does it cost for a brand to register a product? And really what good does the monies spent do? I mean IKA certainly were not on it when it came to get kiteboarding into the olympics.
Their website still shows 2011 registration information, which makes them look a little well not quite up to par.

My point is only if you start charging for something you have to follow up and be professional.

I am probably a little peeved that kiteboarding missed the mark so badly in becoming an olympic sport.

DUDE!

I cannot believe you just said that about the IKA not being on it when it came to getting Kite Racing into the Olympics.

The IKA is the only reason we where considered and got as far as we did. You need to get your info straight. I recommend you read up a bit more on the Topic and also on the Registered Equipment as you are interpreting thing way wrong.

The Website shows all Registered equipment starting from 2011, including the new kites that have been registered in 2012 and now 2013.

Dude. Ok.

..but you do not think that something went very wrong in the whole "who will be in the olympics" voting? The whole process gave me a distaste for these organizations...maybe it is all on isaf..but something was not great in that process.

I'm just not understanding the benefits so that could be partially. As I said I get the box rule for boards, but kites?

It's to avoid people using one off high tech supper prototype kites.

Are there any minimum requirements for number of kites? I mean it would not be as hard to sell 30 super high tech kites and sell them...that is a lot harder with boards.

But my point is that if they want to produce a line of kites, and then have to pay I am guessing per kite they produce (is it priced per kite, per kite line, per size and kite in that size?), it gets expensive for brands really fast, and if you look at how many actually will ever use those kites in a competition...

I actually think that brands would make and produce their best kite anyways no?
..but I also do get your point :-)

Cabrinha is on the list? :protest2: As Neil Pryde the brand owner drove hard to push Kiteboarding out of the Olympics, just as he promised. I am surprised to see them there. I'd be further surprised if anyone other than paid staff would show up at an event with one.

Neil Pryde wanted to be the exclusive manufacturer for all the Kite Course Racing gear at the Olympics, just as he is for the windsurfing rigs they use. Right?
He spat the dummy when the IKA stood up to him, and he then threw he weight as a giant manufacturer against Kiteboardings bid. Calling in all his global windsurfing team riders and ISAF voters to fall in line. :chorus: All the history is online if you search for it.

I think you can drop the 30 board rule and the box rule is fine.

The whole Box rule/ one design saga is driven from the fact mega brands can not compete with the high end capabilities and production methods and direct to consumer sales model that specialist small course board builders can provide. This is also why they have insisted and pressured IKA to add in the 30 board / model rule.
Choke the efficiency out of the custom guys and add viability into super brands owning the market.

This attitude and the Olympic shambles brought shame on Cab riders everywhere & that is sad as they are passionate kiters not disgruntled Olympic Pryde riding Windsurfers . And they had no say in it. If the big boss says jump they say how high! Or have to move off the team or out of a job.

Maybe I've had one to many beers, but screw it. I'm just saying what's being said at the beach over and over.

Good on the IKA for having a bloody good crack.
Neil Pryde and the Cabrinha group should sharpen up their game.

FYI - I don't compete... more beer please 8)
