I am not all that sure that any outside influences are why kiting is no longer in the Olympics for 2016

Remember the vote to get windsurfing back in did not get the numbers as required in November.

I believe it was the fact that there was some little known rule the winder surfers found that meant anything that was voted on or changed throughout the year could be raised and made to re-vote at the AGM.

I bet anyone how makes a change to rules etc throughout the year will now be watching their back until the agm at the end of each year is over, either that or they will all vote to change this rule so it cant happen again to any other decision made during the year as it turned into a major debacle in the eyes of the public and also most likely the IOC!

Neil Pryde wanted to be the exclusive manufacturer for all the Kite Course Racing gear at the Olympics, just as he is for the windsurfing rigs they use. Right?
He spat the dummy when the IKA stood up to him, and he then threw he weight as a giant manufacturer against Kiteboardings bid. Calling in all his global windsurfing team riders and ISAF voters to fall in line. :chorus: All the history is online if you search for it.

I think you can drop the 30 board rule and the box rule is fine.

The whole Box rule/ one design saga is driven from the fact mega brands can not compete with the high end capabilities and production methods and direct to consumer sales model that specialist small course board builders can provide. This is also why they have insisted and pressured IKA to add in the 30 board / model rule.
Choke the efficiency out of the custom guys and add viability into super brands owning the market.

This attitude and the Olympic shambles brought shame on Cab riders everywhere & that is sad as they are passionate kiters not disgruntled Olympic Pryde riding Windsurfers . And they had no say in it. If the big boss says jump they say how high! Or have to move off the team or out of a job.

Maybe I've had one to many beers, but screw it. I'm just saying what's being said at the beach over and over.

Good on the IKA for having a bloody good crack.
Neil Pryde and the Cabrinha group should sharpen up their game.

FYI - I don't compete... more beer please 8)
Well, It is from children and drunk people you hear the truth :P

I also was told these roomers about that Neil Pryde had a big impact to the Olympic decision. And yes, you could have your thoughts about Cabrinha as a subbrand. But you should not judge by roomers. And despite how shity this was, I believe the final decision is not to be changed now - so we better just move on as a sport.

And here the box-rule is really good with no corruption - and keep it fair for everybody. Also the new rules with how many kites in each size you can have is fair, and keep it on a level where everybody can compete. And still makes kiting the most simple sailing discipline to travel to competitions. But in general I think rules should maybe not be published so close to the season, but rather at the end at one season, counting for the comming...with enough time to adapt to this for production and before we buy the gear.

And regarding the payment of the registration. Well, a organisation needs an income. And this has to come from somewhere. And that is from the consumer. So when the brand pays to registre the kite, they just send the bill to the buyer in the end, by the price of the kite. Why some brands dont want to do this I dont know, but I dont think they sell the kite cheaper because they dont pay to Ika...maybe they dont want just because of a principle? But for me who wants to use the kite, it means I have to go for another brand.

Pertaining to an earlier comment, the new weight limit for the boards is 5.5 kgs not 5kgs. This will make it easier for other manufacturers to compete and also help make the boards a bit stronger. But you never know how that goes with overseas production.

I heard that rule too, but can also see that the ml70 is registred to 5,1 - how is this possible ?

Are you joking ? Just in the little race community I live in, there were many warenty cases of production boards. Even from the top brands in 2012.

It is possible because it is only a new rule
I think for the upcoming season, maybe from April on!

But you can compete with an older model that weighs less by adding some weight. :o
It has been suggested this is to make it upto the 5.5kg and is to be placed on the board around the breather or in that location!

Hi Guys,

If you have the time to post here you can also just go an read the rules for yourselves on the IKA Website.

http://www.sailing.org/tools/documents/ ... 109%5D.pdf are the 2012 Rules

The amendments and changes for 2013 are here http://www.internationalkiteboarding.or ... Itemid=140

That should answer most of your questions.

Thanks Gunnar,
These was also the only docs I could find. I to be honest this only confuse me :P

Caus' here it says board should weight min. 4 kg - but have heard the 5,5 rule (as Alex mentioned) elsewhere. The 5,5 seams quit fair - but Also the length of the board should be max. 1.90 - but on the registration list a couple of boards are longer ? Is this because it is mesured along the rocker curve ?

Anyway - as posted before. I think the box rule is really smart and makes it fair for everybody. I even like the new size catogory rule despite many dislikes them. Just want to understand the rules correctly. That´s why I ask...

Hi Lander,

It is only confusing because you are seeing the 2012 rules as the 2013.

The 2013 Rules only affect the Material registered for the 2013 season. The 2012 material does not go obsolete. The Boards registered in 2012 or before are still allowed to be raced with. But almost all of them weigh more the 4kg anyways.

The box rules is by dimension and the spec is rocker, so the length is a bit confusing.
