wake-skate or skim board

Postby nherbold » Mon Jan 28, 2013 11:48 pm

Thinking about riding with a wake-skate...just seems like fun. Thinking a wake-skate is more versatile than a skim board, but I'm just guessing

Thoughts?
Tnx

depends on what you want to do. I would take a wake skate over a skim. I would also much rather take an alaia type board over the skim...I am not a huge fan of skimboards, but some people used it way back when.

yes most definitely. a wake skate needs power. I guess big skim boards don't as much, but most regular sized skims are not that great in light winds?

All I can say is that I'm happy with my skimboard and I really enjoy it in the shallows. Also it can be really fun in the waves. It just feels so relaxed.

I have no experience with the wakeskate though.

.... Normal skim board are amazing at light wind riding, very little will match them except maybe race board and hydro foils. I have the 2007 original nobile skim and its amazing low wind and loads of fun. On a 12m RRD obsession (82kg) I can match the guys on big flydoor boards etc...

Skim board all the way and they are really cheap second hand.

My vote goes on the skim board because it allows you to have fun in wind conditions which are boring on a TT. It'll be easier to learn tricks because it's all a bit slower too. I have a shinn waterbird which combines bits of both and I really like it. Maybe worth a look although not sure they're still in production.
