Why didn't some of the guys use dedicated high jump kites? Wouldn't such an event good advertisement for e.g. the Naish Draft?

I'm guessing it is because of thew loops the torch can do. Draft will not have as radical pull when looping...it'll fit me better

Exactly...I would love to see one of them get out there with a North Rebel, Ozone Edge, or Cabrinha CB to see how far down wind they would go on one of the higher aspect ratio kites. They can still throw mega loops on these kites as long as they are 9M or smaller.

The topic question is legit.Of course the rider is the pilot in these jumps, but without equipment he will be without his plane. Therefore the prefered kite is a c kite like the Naish torch or Slingshot Fuel, where you will get a direct strong pull and can loop with power and confidence. Even think that Ruben went back on his Fuel in the competition because of this.
The race kites are damm good at boosting but dont have the same pull when turning them.
So a skilled rider also is skilled in making the right choice of equipment :D

The difference in performance between the riders at that level doesn't make such a diference in the height they reach when jumping as high as they can.
All of the competitors in a competition like this one know how to maximize the abilities of their equipment.
IMHO in a comp like this the kite maters the most, then the board, then the rider.

interesting conversation..... did the competitors use C's because thats what they normally fly? or is it because they can get extra height with them?

I think ultimately the C's will pull you higher and the race kites glide you much much longer.
