I have had my monk for a few months and I really like it, except one thing....
if I am riding barefoot after a while the straps/footbed bother the outside part of my feet.
I think the memory foam compresses and the part of the footbed where your small toe and that side of my foot becomes very uncomfortable.
This starts to happen after about 1/2 hour.
Does anyone else have this problem with their Monk or other Shinn board with the same straps and pads? Any solutions besides wearing something on feet?
Thanks,
Ed

I bought a monk (original version) towards the end of last season and used the board a number of times before winter set in. I had read lots of bad things about the footpads and straps, and I was fully prepared to put on my old north pads which I like a lot, but in the end I found the monk pads actually very good, maybe the best I've ever used. It probably has to do with feet shape more than anything. So I haven't experienced this particular problem, but its still early days.

That's odd that you find them uncomfortable. I really like my Shinn pads/straps. I like they're mind numbingly simple and super light. They work great for my wide, flat feet too.
Gripes: If I ride a ton my pinky toe will start to get a little raw. Otherwise my only complaint with them is the footbed is a little slick when riding with booties in cold water. Not a deal breaker, I think their positives far outweigh one minor thing.
Feet are such f'ed up things, I can't imagine one strap pad that works for all.
There is a new Shinn pad/strap called the Sneaker X for this year. I'd be curious to hear what that's about.

It is probably just you man. When I tried the Shinn pads I thought they were very comfortable and had no issues. Everyone's feet are different and we all so place pressure on different points of our feet.

Hi Ed,
I had exactly the same problem.
I sent following to the boss:
"...Firstly - riding left foot forward, jumping and landing, my left foot's little toe hurts very much when hitting the water because the plastic bit of the strap is not padded appropriately. Is there any way I can change that or the set-up?"
This was his answer:
"I find this very strange, do you have the larger Sneaker or the RS set? The straps adjust from both ends when you make them larger, maybe open them completely and check that when you made it larger it did not simply extend on one side exposing the plastic fixer."
Try it and let us know if it helps.
Cheers
Caesar

I had the exact same problem! Also found that the straps sat to far forwards and the board would fly off my feet more times than not when jumping/spinning. Replaced them with Liquid force luxury's and the problem was solved.

I have the new Sneaker X and prefer it over the Sneaker S but that is all a personal preference thing here for sure. They are not as soft and not as thick but I prefer the feeling of the grip and also the shape of the pad bed is more flat and I prefer this too. Very easy to do one foot but no fear of loosing a feet during a big air jump. I use them with 3mm shoes and also with 7mm boot last fall with no problem. However i did not had the chance to try barefoot yet. Theses are my most comfortable and favorite pads/strap combo I have had. And the new Monk Forever is incredible too

<sarcasm on>Mate, why would you wear shoes and boots while kiting? The water is 28°C and you wont need these sort of things.<sarcasm off>
Talk to you soon.
Cheers

Ive had mine for years and they are very comfortable. If you have issues talk to John or Mike (the US division of Shinn) and they will take care of you.

I had the same problem with my Dundee initially. Looking at the straps I saw the sides are made of rigid plastic and my foot was digging into the hard plastic. I tried changing my stance (knee and ankle position so feet are more parallel to each other) and not only the pain went away, I was riding better. Took a little concentration at first to change my habit but was well worth it! Try it.
