I'm about to build a set of ''DETACHABLE" fliptips for my board , its only an experiment as i believe the fliptips on my WT147 inhibit upwind performance on flat water . they absolutely rock in the surf as the board was designed for "waves".
the board i am experimenting with is 148 x 39 with square ends the fliptips will attatch to the board at the fin bolts
in my area of the world its surf in summer and the lake in the winter due to offshore winds in winter . Am lucky enough to have both nearby.
wil post an outcome in about a week .

Flip tips don't touch the water when your on the plain so therefore they can not inhitbit performance, the only time tips come into contact with the water is when hitting chop or you have to much front foot weight or in bottom turns of waves.
Have a look at the back of your WT next time your out and you will see that the tip is well clear of the water.
Cheers
Pete.

it works in theory Pete but ive watched the tail and i think the tip does have contact with the water when youre putting your weight on the back foot.
The tips are done but the wind is on strike in my part of Australia -- 2 months --2 windy days !!

Bummer with the no wind
Maybe the tip contact is a WT thing as they do have a very small release edge.
