Hansen Aerosports wrote:Hi Aummm: IMHO, the true measure of light wind performance is upwind VMG(efficiency) which becomes more evident as the wind dimishes. High aspect/high projected area kites are typically better in this regard. Low aspect 'bucket' kites typically sit deeper with grunt and faster turning.
There is plenty of middle ground and 'bragging rights' (highly dependent on the board/rider) so the real test is effective upwind VMG.

Yes a record and MYTHBUSTING because the speed of the SUP looks high for 2 to 4 knots of wind.
And a creditable answer concludes the bottom line above :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:
"if that is really aerodynamically possible to fly & ride an inflatable kite with our current technology in that" :?:

Yes we are discussing the serious issues of (2-4kn) "BS"....
....3kn average wind riding on water is impossible with a kite using ANY type of water vehicle
You cannot park a kite at 60 degrees angle and just expect the lines to pull your butt around!

Reading the glassy oil like water to estimate the wind speed is futile in certain TYPES of low winds

This whole thread would not even exists IF Dimitri would have said 4kn short lulls & mostly 5kn

PS another 19m2 day here today (even if it was only 28 degrees / 84 F) :D

Waves were fun ..2 days in a row after work (1 1/2 hr sessions)..NE yesterday...SE today...

actually, it seems you are not "discussing" anything
you are just talking past each other

hope it's more fun than riding at 4 knots

To all who rely on the visual...try to "imagine this"....create a video in your mind

You have all seen.. i hope.. windsurfing done indoors with huge fans blowing 90 degrees to the pool

Now imagine an indoor pool made with 30 meters high ceiling and a long Olympic pool

Next....many many huge fans (probably 100++) to cover the whole length of pool.....
....and the whole side wall 90 degrees to the pool from "bottom to top"

Bottom to top is the key here ...to make ASOLUTELY sure that the wind is same from 1m to 30m

NEXT...and that is the important part...calibrate the fans to send an exact 3kn of wind = 3.45 mph

Keep in mind that if you were to "walk away from fans at normal pace" you would feel ZERO wind

Hot launch the V3...fly it overhead....waterstart the SUP diving kite once....
...park the kite at 60 degrees to the water...ride SUP across entire length of pool...
...while of course filming yourself with GoPro in one hand and steering with the other

You may want to add a jibe when reaching the other side of pool and return to starting point

THIS LOW WIND SPEED NUMBER #3KN MAKES NO SENSE FOR ANY KITE PLUS THE V#3

PMU...SUPA...TAUTO and many others hope that you will SEE how ridiculous that claim is !!!!!

Go ahead it is OK.....use your imagination

SupaEZ and Tautologies... SHUT THE F*** UP!!!!

I'VE BEEN TRYING TO DROWN OUT THE BULLSHIT EVERY TIME I OPEN UP THIS THREAD, BUT YOU GUYS ARE UNREAL!!!

SUPA EZ - The Patron Saint of Stubbornness

WHO GIVES A FLYING F*** WHETHER IT WAS 1 KNOT OR 4.3 KNOTS?!?!

THERE IS NO OTHER VIDEO OF A KITE FLYING AND PULLING A KITER ON ANY BOARD ANYWHERE IN SUCH LOW WIND SPEEDS EVER!!!

Anybody with any experience reading wind on the water knows that the windspeed is low as shit in that video. And anybody that has actually been to that spot knows that it isn't some secret invisible wind blowing up high. You can tell from the direction he is kiting. It's F***ING incredible, and you know it. Boring as shit, but F***ING incredible!!!

Quit your job, get a new girlfriend, sell your car, trade in your dog - do whatever it takes to put yourself in a better place in life. Because you're obviously miserable with WAY too much time to spend trying to tear down something that is IRREFUTABLE.

OR - post a similar video using your kite of choice and board. Go ahead and use whatever secret spot you think can hide the 8 knot winds that you think are really blowing up high in that video. Make sure we can see how far away the coastline is, like in Dimitri's video. You're talking the Outer Banks of NC - one of the most visited kite spots in the world. NOBODY else is kiting in that video because they CAN'T.

As above!

Dead right Supa!
Although I think the walking backwards analogy may be easier for some of the apologists to get their heads around:
Kite2Heaven wrote:PMU - you really are stupid if you are resorting to walking backwards with a kite !!! … Otherwise "ALL" wind readings are BULLSHIT just like yourself !!
Of course, walking backwards with a kite is not a recognised way of testing its low-end, UNLESS you are making claims that it can fly in "2-4 knots". It would be EASY to test Epic's "2-4 knot" claim by putting up the Infinity in a school hall or similar & walking backwards at the standard walking velocity of 2.7 knots.

The interesting thing about this thread is that pretty much all the kite designers I know are following it, including some of the big companies. They all think it is interesting and slightly amusing. All agree though that the wind ranges quoted by Dimitri can't be accurate and that PMU is actually pretty close to the mark. Flame on.

I really hope the big companys are reading this - otherwise they wont even attempt to make kites fly in light winds and sit on there lazy asses.
P.M.U - still stands for Pump Me Up the ass :o in a gay friendly way of course (walking backward/pushing backward) holding a kite ... Not quite out the closet huh :) whatevaaaaaaaa
