Kiting expedition

Postby danglemonkey » Sun Feb 24, 2013 7:43 pm

I always read of these kiting feats and expeditions and think: I fancy giving that a go.

The thing is, any open water long distance trip is only ever going to last so long and you really need a safety boat etc. I've known of people doing a long distance run on snow, but that sounds too cold for me. I was wondering if anyone has done a long distance trek over land. Is there anywhere in the world where you could travel maybe 500 miles over a week by kite. Maybe along a desert coast (west africa??) or in a desert itself with consistant winds. Carry a tent for sleeping in and take it pretty easy.

Not looking at pushing any extremes but covering a long distance by kite.

Any thoughts on possible places?? Or has it been done?

Downwinders are safer! Somewhere along the coast from Brazil.

Here's a video of some guys crossing the Simpson Desert with kite buggies.
It doesn't really look like much fun, IMO.

Plummet made some videos of him crossing some dunes and having a 24 hour race on his landboard. Those look like much more fun to me.
