I was racing upwind on my raceboard and teconics fins suddenly i hit a sandbar which didn see, i got knocked out of the board then i flipped the board to see if the fin is ok and i noticed i took a tiny chip of the fin in the top and felt quite rough... brand new set of fins i feel really bad would this really affect my performance while racing? also should i sand it with really thin stuff? any polish? thanks guys...
cheers! should i feel bad about this or is it normal?

lightly sand and then thinner to clean - then reglass/epoxy area (maybe a blob of 10 min epoxy.will sort it..? - sand back - don't oversand, a polished finish creates more surface tension than a dull surface sand with 200 then 400 , 800 if you serious

a good foil profile reduces friction/turbulence too so dont mess with the profile i reckon

If it is not too bad, and the length of the fin is the same, sand it and race it again. You will loose some little effiency but the biggest difference will be in your head ;)
You can also say this is your training fin and then race with new ones when competing in very important races.
Think we all experience it. Adam Koch even hit the sandbar in a competetion in Germany.

That is significant tho. So sand you head instead. Lightly. Be careful with the epoxy though. Glue is better.

hey so just to be clear I was joking.

I would be very careful with repairs. Maybe consider asking the maker to fix them?

I got to first base with my Maui Tectonics Talons.

I did bang the tip on one of the front fins at then end of last season. I'm not good enough to notice the difference.

it doesnt look like its only the 2 front fins, i put some epoxy with some fiberglass sheet on the walls of the box and sand it went for a session, come back and the fins are not flat with the board, changed the screws, same thing... so its not the box or screws maybe its the corner of the box thats to long not the walls the front and back and the fins with the pressure hit the back and makes it loosse and start to come out the fins dont come out they just arent flat with the board like the rear one!
