Athens, Loutsa advice

Postby Janus » Sun Mar 10, 2013 2:07 pm

Guys
Probably heading to Greece in June (22-27) for a congress.
Congress is on the int airport and 3km away from Loutsa.. :-)
Best will be a small hotel at the spot so I can kite everyday after 1700 hour. Looking at hotel medusa which will be the closest in my search.. Are there other options?
What conditions to expect? TT or waveboard and what sizes to take with me for kiting at the end of the day?
Thx!
Janus

in Loutsa you can ride both TT & waveboard
the size i recommend is 10m but sometimes 8m is a must because its too windy
notice is a difficult spot to ride (but the best) and its not for beginners

Ok thanks,
Too windy? I can bring a 5... 8)
Don't worry I'm riding some years already, thanks for your concern.
Looks like a small and rocky launch area, correct?
But will the waves be that nice for a waveboard? A TT is less fragile when traveling but my preference is a waveboard.. Dilemma..
So 7 & 10 will be fine.
What about neoprene? Water and air temp?;
3/2 shorty or 0.5 neoprene t-shirt with crash vest?
Thanks!

The best kite to bring will to Loutsa will be a 9 meter and a 12 meter + a 135x41cm Twin Tip. The month of June can be good but again it's not the Meltemies that we have in July/August. But if you have space bring also a 14 meter in case. Also if you get a chance and there is no wind in Athens at all and it's blowing West wind. You need to go to Drepanos which is close to Patra pass Corinthos which is an hour drive from Athens. It creates some thermic winds and for sure by 3 pm you will be on your 9 while there is 0 wind in all Athens or the islands. Concerning water temperature bring a 2.5mm shorty but normally a top 1.5mm is good depending how windy it is .
You can always get in touch with one of my Greek Reps in Greece and he will help you the best he can. His name is Nikos Kalaitzan and this is his email: nikalaitzian@yahoo.gr

Thanks Dimitri and Nikos,
TT with 7&10, will look if the 15 fits too..
Other spots then Loutsa will be a bit of a problem, I'll be there for the congress.
Nice pics btw!

What size kites you have with you? Because Nikos can always let you use one of his own EPIC kites if you need one in case you don't have the right kite that day. It's FREE any way.

Thanks for the offer Dimitri!
My quiver is 5, 7, 10, 15m. I will leave the 5 at home unless the forecast gives nuking winds..
(if there is a totally windless forecast I leave all the gear at home..)

Janus,
You should bring 7/10/15 + a Twin Tip. Then you will be all set in case it's blowing 12 go 15 knots.
Also if you see they are calling for now wind, then just brign your 10/15 meter because you never know and if you have a car you can always go to Drepanos for thermic winds.
But keep in touch with my Greek EPIC Rep Nikos Kalaitzan because he is going to do the best to help you no matter what.

Can you give me spot coordinates from Drepanos? I'm having a hard time finding it... Ending up on one of the isles.. 8)
