Kitesurfing Mexico

Postby kuper » Tue Mar 12, 2013 7:13 pm

Hi,

I'm going to be at Mexico for a month and a half form the beginning of April.
I'm interesting in doing kitesurfing at this period of time.
can any one recommend for witch place would be better at this time - Pdc? Tulum? Baja (Los Barriles)?

Thanks,
Amit.

April is pretty good everywhere. What else do you want to do. The Yucatan Peninsula is awesome, you can kite all of the riviera Maya, and then the north west Coast of the peninsula close to Merida.

Check this link for some mexican kite websites all over Mexico: http://kitemexico.org/AMK_-_Asociacion_ ... endas.html , and join these groups on facebook:

For Baja, La ventana still has wind in April, although not many people around but a great place, i recommend staying at Flying High Resort: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Flying-H ... 0329916218 , email my friend Fernando who is the new manager zemogref@gmail.com .

We'll be south of San Felipe on the Baja @ Bahia Santa Maria during 2nd week of April. Looking forward to it!

Just my take. San Felipe is on the light side unless they're getting a special blow. Huge low tide areas. Tulum is very choppy and surprisingly gusty with very messy surf. Best spot for unbelievable women, some topless.Overrated in my opinion for it's kiting. Maybe it's better behind Cozumel with less chop. Ventana or Los Barriles more wind but not as chic as Tulum what with yoga centers and fancy restaurants up the wazoo. San Felipe is wintering retired US white trash with big bars for the spring break get bonzoed college kids otherwise a sleepy, very nice Mexican town. Cheap campgrounds on the beach most with eateries. Ventana be my pick for serious k-surfing.

If you went to Cancun area and only rode Tulum, you missed Isla Blanca, waves in hotel zone of Cancun and many other spots, Tulum is lightest spot in whole area. I lived in Cancun for many years and must say you blew it  . Many people ride the flat water at Isla Blanca and say it is one of the best spots they ever rode. Tulum is good for topless chicks like you said, chasing backpack betties at hostels and seeing the only Mayan Ruins in front of beach in the area. Water is some of the most beautiful in the area but wind is usually more than a few knots lighter than in Playa to Isla Blanca area. COntact Ikarus they will hook you up, Foca is the coolest.

My 2 cents.

JB
