Large kite with big wind range

Postby Windfreak87 » Sat Mar 16, 2013 3:39 pm

Starting kiting last spring, basically I can go upwind and do simple transistion and going to be working on jumping once the water is in the 40s. I currently have a 13 and 10 crossbow. At 102kg. On my 161 litewave wing I am staying up wind at 14knots with my 13 and hold it to 22knot comfortably with my 146 slingshot misfit. I was thinking about picking up lightwind kite with good range like the fat lady, zephyr, core, best ts. Basically Im looking for kite where i can have a better lowend to use my smaller board but can hold it until 20knots comfortably then I change down to 10m. I would sell my 13m to help cover the cost of the new toy. Basically I want to get some advice from others with experience with these kites. Thanks

Id get an infinity. Im not an epic rep or anything or affiliate with the company what so ever, but i do own a v1 infinity a 12m park and a 9m renegade. I weigh 160 and use a ss lunacy or custom w/boots. I use my infinty from 8-15kts. When its powered it boosts and it turn very fast. Great for freestyle and not to bad for wake. I bet you could get 2 infinitys for the price of 1 brand new cabrinha. I got my full quiver for less than 2500 and havd been using them for almost 3 seasons now. Awesome kites

These will give you much better low end, and will save you a lot of money in the long run

I agree with you, excecise and diet is important and i have lost quite a bit of weight already. But depending on your body build, being a lightweight is not realistic. So i just eat right a focus on being in better health.

Maybe it's because you need 2 Épic to match the performance and quality of one Cab,,,

Core, best, cabrinha, blade are sold locally in my area, and could not justify spending 2 grand... give or take on something I could not demo. I bought my cabs on close out, I think I paid about 2300 for the quiver. Buy talking to local kiters and doing my own research I don't know how the justify the prices for their new gear.

I agree with Shred. I just recently bought an Infinity V2 and flew it for a full day last Saturday. Started in the morning with 7 to 8kts and flew it all day. The winds picked up to 15 with gusts to 18/20kts. At the top end of the range, it was a handfull, but it was manageable on my small board (a Shinn Luigi 130 and I am 180 lbs). I stayed upwind with no problems. I think that if you can fly your 10m at just above 15kts, the V2 will fill low end gap just fine.

New, the kite is $1475. Dimitri will mail you a Demo and let you keep it for about 10 days with a credit card deposit of $999 (He credits your card back when he gets the kite back). He pays shipping to you and you pay shipping back. He is really low pressure about it and won't give you a hard time if you decide not to buy the kite. This is pretty much the easiest way I have seen to demo a kite on your own schedule.

Some other possibilities might be the Fat Lady, or the Air Rush Lithium One. A Naish Fly might work good too if you want a smaller kite with some good low end. I personally have not flow these kites, but there are plenty of good reviews for all of these on the forum, and from the shops I have visited. Good luck, and let us know what you find.

I've read alot good thinks about the flysurfer, but there is no dealer in my area and rarely even seen them. If I could find a deal and could actually fly one i would consider one, but they are to pricey and completely different from what I'm used to just go out and buy.

I am definitely interested in a fat lady and plan on trying get a demo from my local rep. Also how do they stack up to core xr2 17m and best ts 17m. I should be able to try the core and best as well.
