Alaska sessions

Postby kitekook907 » Sat Apr 06, 2013 6:51 pm

The last two weeks in south central Alaska have been blessed with epic conditions. We have had 5 days of east wind sessions, and 3 with a west wind. Add awesome powder conditions and sunshine, and you get some super stoked folks around here, especially the ones that traveled all the way up here for the spring festivities.
Monday April 1st had us kiting across Portage, up to the Burns glacier, up and across the Burns to the final 800 vert hill climb up to the Whittier glacier. Snow and wind conditions were perfect, and we had unarguably the best 8 hour kite session of our lives. What a zone!
Post up your Alaska stoke and pictures here, and share some secret spots with the rest of us!

I'm sure it's hard for warm water kiters to comprehend,
but the body heat generated snowkiting makes for very comfortable temps.
Correct gear is of course important.
Layers that breath are a must.
Goretex pants and jacket are very nice for staying dry and again for breathability.
I always have a down vest compressed in my small back pack,
for if I want to stop out there and take a break.
Big heavy gloves are not needed, most of the time,
if you core is staying warm.

I've been much colder in the spring and fall water sessions, than snowkiting.

Homer here - wind has been so good we're starting to take days off to recuperate. Just got more snow on top of the 60 inch base. Going to be on the water pretty soon, just need some waves to kick up.

That looks epic! More photos of amazing terrain please.
Spring corn down here in the 'contiguous' is quickly rotting out so I'm real jealous.
Agreed: snowkiting is way warmer than 50 degree water, not mention the 3rd axis of freedom.
