No I think that's a "if you try it you won't want to return it".

Yeah, good stuff and absolutely no need to drop big bucks! Save that money for other things that you can't rig yourself :jump:

I wanted to do this, rope for surf, fixed for wakestyle. But my current harness doesn't have a symmetrical spreader bar to hook the rope to on both ends (ion, mystic etc.). would have to attach the rope somehow every time I put the harness on.

I do not have mine attached the spreader bar but tied off to reinforced loops on each side of my harness. I just step into it and pull it up. If you don't like that you could tie one end off to the harness and the other to a shackle so you could disconnect that side for ease of use.

I assume fixed hooks are the equipment of choice because they were adopted from windsurfing. Just yesterday i was telling a kiting friend that once I tried sliding spreader bar hooks i will never go back to fixed hooks. Sliding hooks seem to be gaining momentum in the kite boarding community and I predict they will be the equipment of choice in the near future for most kite boarders.

I own a Jaybar and could not be happier with it.

I also own the current Jaybar 2013 - really nice.

However, I realised last time I used it that the little "slider wheel" is not turning easily... not really an issue since the hook slides without the wheel turning (of course with much more friction and wear on the rope)- but is that how it is intended? I don't even remember how it was when it was new...
