This would allow me to pull out my old bars that had homemade rope and tubing loops with no release and no donkey dick.
I LIKE IT!!!!
Maybe this system would help bring the absolutely crazy prices on bar systems down to reality??

Is there a version for right handed people?

In a real emergency it will be difficult to quickly release with your off-hand. You would actually need to think and that would take to long.

Otherwise it looks like a great idea.

Totally agree with the idea of a Q/R spreader bar hook.

Totally agree that the release should be suitable to operate with either hand.

I think kitesurfing needs something like this, but dont think the design is as good as it should be. The Slingshot Surefire was closer to how the release should work.

You have the curved end of the hook hinged and it extends back to the spreader bar. You operate a release on top of the hook base and the extension of the curved part swings down and your chickenloop (or whatever) is released as the curved part of the hook swings up.
To reset, you just swing the extension back up and it clicks into place.
Seems a better way to me.

The problem with the Sure Fire was it used to bend over time and from what I remember of ours would not work properly!
They were also developed with the leash attached for the old system on the outside line.

they should change the shape of the releasable hook. now it looks like fishing hook. imagine if it catch your jaw or ear or eye...

and in general i don't like the idea of flying metal hardware attached to kite bar :nono:

Yes the Surefire had a lot of problems - some of them stemming from the rotating leash system. I have a Surefire bar but don't use it.

I think its great that a company has decided to build one of these and I hope it becomes an industry standard.

I did a bit of thinking over the years of how one should work.
In my concept, the bar would be the same as the Mystic one except the hooked end on the bar casting would be missing and there would be a hinge where the straight bit started to curve into the hook. The removable hook would only include the straight top piece and have a pin through it for the hinge at the end of the straight top piece (where it started to curve into the hook).
For a release I thought of a blade-type lever on top of the casting hinged at the spreader bar end (and sping-loaded to keep it central), and you pull the outer end (nearest the hinge) of the blade to either side to release the inner end of the hook extension. A small curved ridge on the casting just outside the end of the release lever to stop a line getting under the lever.

How easy that is to use when you wear gloves/mittens?

I use mittens in snowkiting and when water is cold.
