28 firewire boards in a light strapless construction?!

Postby rebeliousone » Thu Apr 11, 2013 7:59 pm

Rumor is that firewire recently unleashed the entire surf quiver of boards into kiting. That is nearly 28 boards last time I counted if my math is correct!

The construction is the same as the insert boards but without inserts...and this will take about 1-1.5 lbs off the current production kite insert boards. :thumb:

Check out the facebook firewire kiteboard site for more info which is where I got it.

To me it seems this is nothing new, FST is FST, without inserts, it's still FST.
they have offered this for a while, right?
What I wonder about FW is if the wood skinned ones are any less delicate than the FST, which ding rather easily for a compsand.
Also, if you say "kite" do they throw on an extra layer of glass?

Well what's new is that they are built with extra glass layup for kite surfing. From what I know the inserts added a ton of weight because of all the reinforcement added. Take that away, you have a rippable kite surf board with all that weight gone but built for the abuse from kiting.

FST is the strongest construction. Bamboo decks are much more dentable from my riding experience on them.

They only offered about 5 models in a insert kite surf model. Now they offer every surfboard in a strapless kite construction without inserts.

this is awesome, cause us big boys dont have to ride kitesurf boards made for 150lb guys, plus we can surf them also!! ive seen regular firewire's get destroyed from kiting, so they do need reinforcement

I don't get the impression from their posts that they are building stock of all models, but offering the opportunity to order one of your choice to be custom made with the kite construction. Hence why you have to pay a deposit......

Not sure if I understand your post J. Reading their online forum, you can order any FireWire model that they have for surfing, and order it as a kiteboard without inserts. Pretty simple.

With any of their custom surfboards you leave a deposit because it is shipped from overseas. If its in stock you don't have a deposit. Pretty typical actually of most shapers in the states to leave a deposit...
