Most struts are segmented to make up the profile of the wing, the part that creates lift excepts for MoMi's design which is one joint. He may be onto something or it maybe just a cost cutting design, I do not know but stands out like dog balls compared to other kite designs.
I am aware exactly what part you are referring to...I have had full quivers of MoMi designed kites (four different models from two different companies) and they are among the best performing kites I've ever flown.
On the other hand, the kite design that you allude to, did not perform well, when I owned it.
There are several ways to do struts. North has a floating center strut idea, nothing like the curve you speak of, and we all know the Rebel is the most popular kite on the planet.
You can take shots at MoMi's designs if it makes you happy, but the truth is, his kites fly very well.
There is a lot of detail to kite design, and it is silly to try to pick apart something
that you think might be a problem, where there is no problem.
The kite
that you are endorsing inverted in mid air three times for me, my second session on it.
The luff curve was way too shallow, the bridle configuration was not nearly right, the kite had waaaaay too much bar pressure, it turned kinda slow, it stalled often and the tubes were too small which made them not rigid, and the outside struts were connected at a bad angle or wrong, so the wingtips folded when jumping.
I was told that I was the problem, not the kite design, end of discussion.
I don't really care what a designer comes up with, I care about how their kites perform.
MoMi kites fly great and do exactly what the company owners asked him for.
If you have an issue with Epic and don't want to put that strut to the test, then test a Blade Prime and a Blade Trigger and then try to say MoMi is making mistakes.
The real question is, why waste your time asking about a kite you obviously have no intention of flying, (I have no problem with dogs balls) ..clearly your mind is made up already.
If you like a constant curve kite, keep buying and flying them, the price is certainly right.
As has been pointed out, there is a whole forum dedicated to that design, have at it.
