Boosted trick how-to: the 3x3

Postby Osprey1 » Tue Apr 23, 2013 11:55 pm

The 3 x 3 is a triple backroll with a double inversion where you end up spinning in all 3 planes of motion x, y & z.This trick was inspired by watching videos of the Richman brothers in slow motion and performing a variation of a triple spin. I don't know if it has an official name, so I'm dubbing it the "3 x 3". (This trick is likely way old school except with the emphasis on the double inversions)
I'm still getting it dialed but these are the steps to do it, learn the prerequisite tricks first. It's best to do this trick when you are completely lit as you will need to boost as high as you can to be able to complete it:

Prerequisites: Going huge, Double back roll with upwind invert

Double-back roll with upwind invert on second spin.

1. With both hands on bar boost as big as you can
2. Go into a flat, slow backroll. You should do a flat rotation around your lines rotating around the Y axis. Doing this first spin slow is key to this trick. Time it so you complete your first backroll as you come to the apex of your jump.
3. As you come around 360 and can see in front of your throw your head quickly into a straight back flip. Here you are doing a back flip straight upwind. Try to get your board to your lines so as to make the inversion. You should be rotating/flipping around the X axis as you do this
4. Spot your landing and nail it.

The 3 x 3

4. As you come around and are facing downwind on your second spin, throw your head straight forward to your back foot in a front flip motion. This should be like doing a front flip off a diving board so really try to get the inverted again. (Try learning single invert Mexi-flips to get this motion down)
5. When upside down spot your landing and keep tucked to complete the flip. You will lose sight of the water as you come up and over. Pull hard with front hand.
6. If your timing is right you will land and ride away.
7. Repeat and make it stylie by extending your legs and pausing when upside down

Key points:
- Go huge
- Make the first back roll slow and flat
- Make sure you almost complete each spin before starting the next.
- Over-emphasize getting inverted otherwise you will just spin off axis but wont truly get upside down.

Good luck!

Sorry but no
to keep our sport legitimate, You- the rider and namer of said trick must complete "your" original trick during competiton to name it. It is deemed your trick and you get to name it.
Taken from naming wakeboarding tricks.
but to really name a trick it has to be unhooked and powered just so you know that its not dangly
thats why Shawn and Jesse call it a triple backroll kiteloop and not a 3x3, mainly because it hasn't properly been done yet

PS to do a triple back like the Richmans you gotta loop it after the second rotation
doesn't matter on axis that just adds style to it

Heres Bas doing a double back transition all you gotta do is go a bit bigger and pull harder on the loop to complete the trick

Sounds cool !
Any video?

A trick is legit when you land it quiet clean and have a sequence or video!

it's fine to name tricks you can't land yet that's how Rubens s loop was made and he still hasn't landed it clean

there's that video of him on the loose they dont show the landing in one take instead there's a cut edit :-)

anyway you can name tricks whatever you want even if they seem impossible. If the trick is fun and interesting maybe your name will stick or maybe the first guy to land it will rename it.

its all good

Yea funny the hatin on the forum. I'm not naming anything except that triple backroll with double inverts is more appropo. Yes I have landed this a number of times but I'm working on trying stall out the inverts more. Regarding the kiteloop on the 2nd roll with a triple that is "The Blender" which is a fun trick as well (I did this move in a comp last year but the judges only scored it a triple backroll and ignored the loop, just trying to do something different). This trick is similar the Bas Koole transition so that's a good starting point but the first flip goes upwind and the second is downwind
